Our work creates a lot of debris and scrap but keeping a job site clean and tidy keeps you and your colleagues safe. A cluttered and dirty job site creates injury risks, affects your ability to focus, and can create health or hygiene issues. Do your part to prevent debris, trash, or tools and equipment from piling up. Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message.    Did you know Struck By and Overexertion are two of the most frequent incident types to occur on the job site? Because of this, it’s important to review how to avoid these incidents. 𝗧𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:  • Identify and mitigate hazards during the Job Briefing and during each task • Conduct thorough equipment inspections • Maintain adequate clearances around equipment and vehicles • Establish safe routes for passage • Keep body parts out of the line of fire 𝗧𝗼 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: • Maintain proper body positioning and posture • Stay hydrated • Take frequent breaks, especially in extreme temperatures or when doing repetitive work • Stretch throughout the day • If you need assistance to complete a task, ask a colleague for help or seek a mechanical means of assistance At MYR Group, Safety is Life.    #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety 

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. While we all need to always be as aware of our surroundings as we can, we can’t always keep track of what’s going on in every area of a job site. Barricades, signage, and controlled access zones (CAZ) are all safety measures that help keep everyone safe by alerting them to hazards they may not otherwise be aware of.    Use signs around areas that present fall hazards. When working at height or with tools that cause sparks, ensure that the zone underneath or around your work area is set up as a CAZ. We can help keep ourselves and each other safe by identifying hazards on the job and using the proper signage to prevent others from being harmed by it. When on the road, you can’t control what other drivers are doing, but you can be ready to react appropriately to their actions by using defensive driving techniques. To be an effective defensive driver, you need to… ① Have a proactive mindset. ② Stay calm and avoid reacting impulsively and emotionally to other drivers’ errors. ③ Be aware of potential hazards before a dangerous situation occurs, adjusting your driving appropriately and safely. ④ Never assume that another driver on the road is going to make the right decision. ⑤ Always follow the rules of the road. Defensive driving prevents accidents. Stay aware, stay calm, stay proactive, and you’ll make the road safer for yourself and others. If you’re in the line of fire, you’re putting yourself at risk from objects that may move or energy that may be released. To avoid the line of fire, you need to be aware of the line of fire. Always stay situationally aware, and before beginning a task, review the position of yourself, your coworkers, and equipment or objects in the area. An effective way to assess for line of fire hazards is to use the Energy Wheel and go through potential energy sources near you.
