🔥⛏This morning, 19 members of the #Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew (#CIFC), coordinated by DEEP, mobilized from Marlborough to combat wildfires near Redmond, #Oregon. “Once again, the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew answers the call to assist those in other states in their time of need,” said DEEP Commissioner Katie Scharf Dykes.” We are so grateful to the members of this crew for their courage and service as they take time out of their lives and their work to deploy far from home. We wish them and all the responding firefighters well and look forward to their safe return.” The team includes six full-time DEEP employees and members from #RhodeIsland and #Massachusetts. This deployment is part of a general call-up of Eastern fire crews to assist out West. DEEP’s Forestry Division coordinates the CIFC, ensuring all members undergo rigorous training and testing. Connecticut’s participation in the U.S. Forest Service’s reciprocal aid program allows for mutual support in fire emergencies and natural disasters. ⚡💲Last week DEEP submitted the initial application for its proposed Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate (HEAR) program. Pending approval from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the $49.5M program will promote energy affordability, reduce the energy burden, and improve indoor air quality for low-income households (<80% AMI) in both single-family and multifamily buildings. Up-front rebates will be available for multiple upgrades, including installation of heat pumps, heat pump hot water heaters, electric stoves and ranges, heat pump clothes dryers, electric panels and wiring, and insulation, air sealing, and ventilation. DEEP is in the process of drafting the initial application for the IRA Home Efficiency Rebate (HER) program (which will provide rebates based on efficiency improvements) as well as mapping out the next phase of the application process, the Implementation Blueprints for both programs. Rebates for HEAR and HER will become available after the application processes are complete and approved by DOE and contracting with implementers has been completed. In the meantime, incentives through Energize CT, federal tax credits, and financing through the Green Bank are currently available. See our IRA Home Energy Rebate Programs webpage for more information: Inflation Reduction Act Home Energy Rebate Programs (https://lnkd.in/eGYggk5i)

👏 Governor Ned Lamont, Commissioner Katie Scharf Dykes, and Connecticut’s Congressional delegation have announced a $450 million grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the New England Heat Pump Accelerator Coalition. This coalition, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, will drive the adoption of affordable electric heat pumps across the region. Connecticut’s share, led by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is estimated at up to $100 million. This funding will: 🔹 Boost adoption of cold-climate air-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and ground-source heat pumps 🔹 Reduce emissions and improve health outcomes 🔹 Create good-paying careers in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical sectors 🔹 Ensure benefits for underserved communities through the EPA’s Justice40 initiative. Additionally, Connecticut will receive $54 million for zero-emission freight truck infrastructure and $9.4 million for a geothermal heat pump system in New Haven. This is a significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for New England. 📄 For even more on this monumental announcement and award, read the press release: https://lnkd.in/ecryfarN New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Maine Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources Maine Governor's Energy Office #HeatPumps #EnergyEfficiency #AffordableEnergy #AirQuality #WorkforceDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment
