Connecticut Foodshare is a fantastic operation. Along with a great group of Eversource Energy volunteers, I had the chance to pack food today with dedicated volunteers who have been coming back every week for decades just to give back. I’m pretty impressed we were able to sort through more than 11,000 pounds of food that will help stock shelves at 600+ pantries across #Connecticut. Thank you, Jason Jakubowski and everyone at Foodshare for the opportunity and for the great work you do.

Month 9: Do Everything You Can Seems like an apt description for September on all fronts. Nassau Financial Group was upgraded by Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA). https://lnkd.in/eXYpsyhV Congratulations are in order for a couple of our team members. Jordan Price was named our Chief Financial Officer last week. And Tisa Rabun-Marshall, MBA was named head of #marketing today and will lead a talented, collaborative group of professionals I am deeply grateful to work with - Nick, Heather, Frank, Laura, Mary and Anthony. Both the #annuity industry and Nassau continue to set new #sales records, driven by strong #consumervalue and a desire to lock in rates. I had the pleasure of spending time with two of our top distribution partners out west, including an event with current and former Navy Seals in support of the SEAL Future Foundation. I couldn't keep up with Laura Dinan Haber during Hartford Innovation Week (#hiw) and it's 26 events across the #Hartford region! Shout out to tireless CT advocate Susan Winkler for leading one of the anchor events - Insuring the Future. I spent a weekend in sweltering Houston with great friends Mark Cecil, Jim Frew and the rest of the expanded Brolympics crew. I was in the running, but fell short in the last few events - tether ball is a beast! Congratulations to Dennis Woods, our first non-SJ alum to take home the trophy. On the #nonprofit front, it was committee week at Saint John's High School heading into our first board meeting this school year. And, I enjoyed participating in Connecticut Foodshare's Golden Scoop competition with 12 coworkers and seeing Jennie Hirsch honored at 40 Under 40, where she got to pick her own walk up song...The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. We closed out September with a company golf scramble to raise funds for the Diana Piquette Memorial Scholarship Fund. She continues to be missed by all who knew her. I am pleased to share the Connecticut Foodshare Neighbor Council Report highlighting the achievements of our inaugural program. As the Director of the Institute, one of our focus areas is increasing neighbor (community) engagement. It was essential to my team and I that we created an initiative meaningfully engaging neighbors with dignity and respect. Thus came the Connecticut Foodshare Neighbor Council, a four-month program that focuses on training neighbors to engage in public policy and systems change, elevate neighbor voices to build public awareness of food insecurity, and center neighbor expertise in food bank operations. The Neighbor Council has been a powerful journey for the participants and our team. Together, we have built a community based on trust and understanding, all driven by the common goal of ending food insecurity in Connecticut. The nine neighbors who joined the program in March 2024 and graduated in June are now our Neighbor Council Ambassadors. We are immensely grateful for their dedication and the contributions they have made to the program. They are not just graduates but also valuable stakeholders whom we will continue to support and engage in the food bank's work. The Connecticut Foodshare Neighbor Council would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of many partner organizations, both near and far. A special thanks goes to: ✨ Connecticut Health Foundation, for their generous funding. ✨ Capital Area Food Bank, for allowing the adaptation of portions of the curriculum and workbook from the Capital Area Food Bank Neighbor Leadership Council. ✨ Capital Area Food Bank, Good Shepherd Food Bank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Houston Food Bank, and Oregon Food Bank for sharing their experiences and best practices in developing similar neighbor engagement programs.
