ENGAGED YOUTH=STRONGER COMMUNITY During the application for the #culturalpearlstitle the Svendborg Kommune awarded the title discovered that a significant number of children and youth were not engaging in social activities. Meanwhile research indicates that this participation fosters empowerment and self-confidence. This, in turn, contributes to social resilience of the whole community. So, during their title year city aims to decrease discontent among youth enabling them to participate in social communities and encourage them to build and develop their own. As a result, 13 young people dived into the creativity and self-expression in the 12-week #culturalspaces course open to those aged 15-30 experiencing mental distress, requiring referrals from school counsellors, youth guidance, or job consultants. EXHIBITION EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way (Baltic chain) – a peaceful demonstration in 1989 showing the world the unity, and resilience of the Baltic nations, the exhibition “Postcards from the border” was opened as a part of the Culture and Resilience Action Plan of RŪJIENA our #bsrculturalpearls 2024. In pictures and the interviews it tells the story what is it like to live on the border, what the idea of neighbours mean to them, and, of course, their memories about the time of the Baltic Way captured by Rūjiena team during the three field expeditions. “Sometimes the feeling that we are a community lacks, and actually with this exhibition I live with each of those stories. They are about them, about how they live and what they do. We understand how important fellow human beings are, how important it is to be together,” says one of the exibition authors Karina Vītiņa. Althought the exhibition is situated at the borarder of Latvia and Estonia, it also has a digigtal version and ee invite you check it out: https://ieej.lv/IaJVW To read the full article on Rūjiena's as a Cultural Pearl initiative, follow: https://lnkd.in/d8gCyRJR PHOTO: Anna Paula Gruzdiņa #cultureforresilience #culturalpearls #culturalpearlstitle #MadewithInterreg Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Schleswig-Holstein Loov Eesti/Creative Estonia Varde Kommune Vidzemes plānošanas reģions / Vidzeme Planning Region Alytaus miesto savivaldybė Regional Council of Ostrobothnia Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture - NDPC Danish Cultural Institute Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania Council of the Baltic Sea States Interreg Baltic Sea Region Valmiera City
