You can have the best intentions in the world and still be making someone feel excluded without realizing it. Consider examining your every day behaviors to see how they are making others feel. Here are a few to get you started: 1. Do you frequently brush of a specific person's ideas while choosing to listen to others often? 2. Do you ask them to join a group or begin a project and then neglect to give them the support and training they need to meet expectations? 3. Do you engage with them in a manner that you may use with a close friend before you have established trust? 4. Do you imply their cultural experiences are strange? Do you make them feel guilty if there's a cultural experience they haven't had? 5. Do you make claims about their thoughts or feelings on their behalf that might not be true or complete? Even if you don't mean any harm with these behaviors, they can still negatively impact others' experiences in your workplace. But luckily, there's always space to grow, develop, and become a more inclusive person than you used to be. Want more tips like this on how to be more inclusive?
