Shouting a big thank you to Sharing Excess for supporting our work! They are a gleaning organization based out of Philadelphia that recently expanded to Hunts Point Produce Market in the Bronx, the largest of its kind in the world. We met with them last spring and are honored that despite all the bridges, tunnels, and tolls, they are willing to support CUMAC in our effort to feed those we serve with quality, fresh produce. They brought an incredible 4 palettes of apples, celery, tomatoes, and plantains for us recently. They move 1 million pounds of food EACH WEEK and specialize in making it ridiculously easy for businesses of all shapes and sizes to donate surplus food anytime, anywhere. We're excited to continue a close partnership with their team! #foodjustice #volunteer #foodrescue #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitlife #nonprofit #endhunger #healthyfoodchoices #communitylove #communitydevelopment #freshproduce #volunteerwork #aces #traumainformed #sustainablelifestyle #foodinsecurity #risetogether #equity #foodaccess #healthgoals #justice #viral #explore

Feeding People & Changing Lives
About us
CUMAC is a nonprofit organization that has been serving Paterson, NJ for over 30 years. Our mission is to fight hunger and its root causes through a holistic, trauma-informed approach that provides groceries and basic necessities to families and individuals in need. 1. Our Choice Marketplace and satellite location at Freedom Village for senior living: The Choice Marketplace provides approximately 5 days of healthy groceries each month to guests through an appointment based system. Guests can choose from fresh produce, frozen meat, and pantry staples. 2. Benefits Enrollment Center: CUMAC’s BEC provides free help with benefits applications such as SNAP and LIHEAP, to those residing in Passaic County. 3. Regional Food Hub: The CUMAC warehouse sorts, stores, and distributes food donations to guests and our regional partners. We ultimately provide over 2 millions pounds of food each year. 4. Community Conversations: CUMAC offers Trauma-Informed conversations to discuss Adverse Childhood Experiences and Building Resilience to non-profits, schools, and community members. Our goal is to create awareness and a common language about ACEs, Resilience and Trauma-Informed Community Building principles and how we can partner with families to provide an environment in which everyone has the resources they need to lead healthy and whole lives. 5. Home Delivery: Our home delivery program serves around 120 individuals monthly who because of disability or age can not come to our physical locations. 6. Freedom Village Social Programing: Community Advocates create and implement social programs for seniors living in Paterson to combat social isolation and provide healthy and educational activities. 7. Place of Promise: Place of Promise is a permanent supportive housing program that serves individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

A huge thank you to Passaic County 's elections officials -- County Clerk Danielle Ireland-Imhoff, Superintendent of Elections Shona Mack-Pollock, and their teams -- for heading to CUMAC for a day of voter education and engagement. Our guests and staff even got a chance to try out the County's new voting machines! It's important that every eligible voter knows how to exercise their voices and choices each election cycle! #foodjustice #volunteer #foodrescue #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitlife #nonprofit #endhunger #healthyfoodchoices #communitylove #communitydevelopment #freshproduce #volunteerwork #aces #traumainformed #sustainablelifestyle #foodinsecurity #risetogether #equity #foodaccess #healthgoals #justice #viral #explore

This #HungerActionMonth, CUMAC is proud to celebrate our collaborative work within the FEAST network. Just like CUMAC, FEAST partners work at the ground-level to serve their neighbors in communities and counties throughout the state. FEAST's collective efforts will be the reason that we eventually improve the entire system through which our neighbors and guests are fed throughout New Jersey. Food insecurity does not exist in a vacuum, and ending it requires all of us working and doing this work hands-on, TOGETHER! We're celebrating leaders in the food justice sector for #HungerActionMonth! Thank you to the members of the state's first Assembly Committee on Children, Families, and Food Security, especially Assemblywoman Haider and Assemblywoman Dunn for visiting and listening to organizations who address food insecurity at the ground level and prioritize the needs of their community. We've had great conversation about CUMAC's approach to food and how we are working with key local partners to streamline the relationship between benefits enrollment and food distribution. Their priority is increasing understanding of food insecurity from an intersectional lens to help fellow legislators understand that food insecurity is a consequence of larger social and economic patterns. We appreciate their leadership on the State Assembly's first committee focused on the needs of individuals who deserve representation on the topics that impact their everyday life, or namely, how to enhance access to and availability of food and food-related benefits so that no resident goes hungry. #foodjustice #volunteer #foodrescue #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitlife #nonprofit #endhunger #healthyfoodchoices #communitylove #communitydevelopment #freshproduce #volunteerwork #aces #traumainformed #sustainablelifestyle #foodinsecurity #risetogether #equity #foodaccess #healthgoals #justice #viral #explore

It was such an honor to host Congressman Andy Kim at CUMAC today! We had an awesome time explaining our approach to service in Paterson, and facilitating a room of about 10 regular guests to have their stories, perspectives, and questions heard by this (hopefully) future US Senator!
Starting the week off strong! Today we had the opportunity to host future Senator Andy Kim! He took time to learn about food insecurity, the way CUMAC is leading the charge in going from transactional to transformative trauma informed comprehensive work for our guest via our choice market place and wrap around services! We were also able to have an impactful community empowerment conversation with Congressman Kim. He listened to our guests concerns, hopes and the barriers they're facing. Congressman Kim shared how he plans to address their concerns when he is elected to Senate! Our community felt seen, heard, empowered and hopeful for the future !!!! That's what it is all about ! #upliftingeachvoice CUMAC in action ! @a

The grants have been awarded to City Green, Inc., Communities Revolutionizing Open Public Spaces, CUMAC, nourish.NJ, and RWJBarnabas Health—all of which are working to transform food and health systems to create a healthier NJ for everyone.
