It was a fun and spooky Halloween at Cumberland Hospital! Staff dressed up and our patients had a costume parade around the courtyard to celebrate the holiday. Our Psychotherapy and ICEE (Inclusion, Culture, and Empowerment through Experience Committee) created a haunted house for patients to experience!

Renovation of Unit 6B to include a handicapped/accessible bathroom is almost finished! Cumberland’s medically complex and rehabilitation services can be a steppingstone between acute hospitalization and discharge home and can treat patients with comorbid behavioral conditions that make their participation in therapy challenging. Our program also specializes in subacute rehabilitation for patients who have coexisting behavioral or emotional challenges or cognitive deficits. Have a patient in mind for the medically complex program? For more information, call Hospital Admissions at 800-368-3472 or email cumberlandvavaadmiss@uhsinc.com.

We honor the women who have survived, who are fighting and those that have lost the battle to breast cancer. We have an educational table set up in our lobby with information regarding breast cancer and ways to show awareness. Throughout the month, we have had pink out days and games to bring awareness and remind people to book their screenings. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

This week's Healthcare Hero is Cory Dalrymple! Cory’s supervisor had this to say about him, “Cory is a true example of ‘Treat Everyone As A Guest.’ He greets staff and patients with a friendly hello and a smile every day. Cory is able to work any patient care unit, and he does a very good job of using active supervision to engage any patient. He works well with all staff, and he is able to lead or follow others given the need in the situation.” Congratulations, Cory, thank you for your dedication to Treat Everyone As A Guest!

It was Team JRO (pink) vs Team DRO (red) for our first ever Wiffle Ball game! Staff had a great time playing each other while patients cheered them on from the sideline. Patients earned their spot to attend the game and also earned “money” to spend at the concession stand. The concession stand was stocked with healthy choices so the patients were able to practice making good, nutritious decisions. In the end, it was Team DRO who was victorious!

Last week’s pep rally was a great day of fun and excitement to prepare for the anticipated Wiffle Ball game. Shout out to Unit 8 for taking home the ICEE Championship Trophy for best chant and picking a few of Cumberland’s finest staff members to give a priceless pie to the face! Our other Units were also winners with Unit 9 winning the egg toss and Unit 6A winning tug of war.
