📋 Alchemist Accelerator's David Zhou shares a checklist for evaluating emerging managers: ✔ Sourcing — Are they fishing in differentiated pools? Do they have proprietary access to deals? Where are they finding diamonds in the rough? ✔ Picking — This can be interesting in two ways: (a) track record (which only starts to become interesting after 5+ years with 20+ deals), and/or (b) decision-making framework/algorithm. ✔ Winning — Why do the best founders pick you? How much ownership can you get in these companies? Some examples here:  https://lnkd.in/gfpdhUvY ✔ Likability — You’re either very likeable or contrarian. Anything else just isn’t memorable. And if not memorable for me, likely not memorable for founders. In many ways, I’m looking for ways you stay rent free in a founder’s mind when they know nothing else other than the fact that you invest in early stage companies. ‘Cause let’s be honest; most firm’s websites say just that and nothing more. Some might call this GP-founder fit. Others call it vibes. ✔ Uniqueness — A bit amorphous here, but really, it’s just: Is there something I’ve never heard of before? As a caveat, I only started including this “pillar” after I saw about 200 decks and pitches. Before that, I simply didn’t know what counted as unique and what didn’t. Scorecard below👇 For a deeper dive into David's thought process, read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/gm8GSFTu #VentureCapital #LPInsights #EmergingManager

    Tenaciously and idiosyncratically curious.

Sharing some quick learnings from Season 1 of Superclusters 1/ YouTube has been the best acquisition channel, then Apple then Spotify 2/ Spotify measures plays by those who listen for longer than 60 seconds. On the flip side YT and Apple Podcasts both measure plays as "greater than 0 seconds". So different ways to measure plays might account for (1) comparing apples to oranges 3/ People who view short-form content are different from people who view long-form podcasts. So being aware of that is important 4/ The most popular podcast episode for each platform is different. For YouTube, it's Chris Douvos and Ben Choi's episode. For Spotify, it's Jeffrey Rinvelt and Martin Tobias' episode. And for Apple Podcasts, it's Samir Kaji. 5/ For Superclusters, the least watched episodes have 1.5-2 times the watch time of the most watched/listened episodes. With Courtney Russell McCrea, Jamie Rhode, CFA, and Elizabeth "Beezer" Clarkson leading in terms of watch/listen time across platforms. 6/ Superclusters is most popular with 35-44 year olds. Followed then by 27-34 year olds, then 45-59 year olds. 7/ Eric Woo, CFA's episode wins as the most watched short for Superclusters. 8/ Howard Lindzon's episode has the most equally distributed audience in Season 1. Fans across every age group, including Gen Zers. Lots more to come in Season 2! But found these insights to be super interesting! More random insights on my blog.
