Without future scientists, there is no future science, and it is through science we will develop new technologies and approaches to build a better future. The next generation of scientists can’t help us build a better future if we don’t foster them first.

The Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Network (DIAN) collaboration of scientists and families has illuminated this disease for the entire community. Without vital longitudinal data from cohorts like the DIAN families, we would understand far less about the window during which pathology is accumulating but symptoms have not yet emerged -- the window during which effective intervention would add many more years of cognitive health. DIAN has demonstrated its value to the entire Alzheimer's community but we can only continue to learn from its wealth of biological and clinical data if its funding is continued and consistent.
