#CVStratPack on the go! Shawn Harkness and Matthew Adler toured the San Gabriel Valley River Watershed with Southern California Water Utilities Association (SCWUA). They gained firsthand insight at key landmarks like Morris Reservoir Dam, San Gabriel Dam, and Spreading Basins, and Valley County Water District's Water Treatment Facility. A big thank you to Cox Castle for hosting an extremely informative PFAS seminar with Haley & Aldrich. The presentation focused on the impacts of the U.S. EPA classifying PFAS as hazardous chemicals under CERCLA, better known as Superfund. In addition to the potential impacts for property owners, the session also covered the proposal to include nine different PFAS under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). If included, PFAS would face regulations from creation through disposal. The wide-ranging discussion also touched upon Foam Fractionation as a promising PFAS treatment method. Today was an enlightening experience visiting South San Joaquin Irrigation District with Katie Patterson and Forrest Killingsworth. The district's canal system has a pivotal role in the community by diverting water from dams to supply farmers, local communities, and nearby cities. Currently, this canal faces significant vulnerabilities due to its precarious location against a cliff face, posing potential risks to the community's water supply. The Canyon Tunnel Project aims to mitigate these risks by constructing a secure tunnel, ensuring reliable water access despite environmental challenges.
