CVAUSA is excited to share Avalere’s latest white paper, which illuminates critical trends in healthcare spending and utilization across five specialty service lines. The analysis answers three key questions: 1. What are the trends in physician practice affiliation from 2019 through 2022? 2. Are there differences in Medicare utilization and expenditures for beneficiaries treated by physicians practicing under different affiliation models? 3. What is the impact of a shift from an unaffiliated private practice (UPP) to an affiliated model (PEAPP, corporate, or hospital) on beneficiary utilization and expenditures? One notable finding reveals that hospital-affiliated physicians generated the highest Medicare expenditures, whereas unaffiliated private practices had the lowest. These findings highlight important economic implications tied to physician affiliation, providing key insights for stakeholders navigating the complex healthcare environment. Major changes are on the horizon for cardiology! Dan Blumenthal, MD, MBA, chief quality officer at Cardiovascular Associates of America and cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, shares critical insights into how Medicare's shift to value-based care will reshape the landscape by 2030. “By 2030, we’re looking at a landscape where two-thirds or more of our patient population as cardiologists will be engaged in ACO relationships, either through privatized Medicare or traditional Medicare,” explained Blumenthal. While the challenges are real, he also highlights exciting opportunities for cardiologists to drive better outcomes and collaborate more closely with hospital leadership. CVAUSA partners with athenahealth to equip our cardiologists with the tools they need to excel in value-based care. Through athenaOne, our members gain access to a comprehensive suite of EHR, RCM, and patient engagement solutions, optimizing care delivery and achieving better patient outcomes. Together, CVAUSA and athenahealth are shaping the future of value-based cardiology. “We decided to collaborate more closely with athenahealth for two primary reasons. First, because our organizations share a common goal: enabling practices to transform the way they deliver care and prioritizing value-based care arrangements to achieve better outcomes. Second, because many of our cardiologists already have a high satisfaction rate based on their experience with athenaOne,” said Timothy Attebery, DSc, MBA, FACHE, chief executive officer of CVAUSA. #healthcare #cardiology #valuebasedcare #CVAUSA #athenahealth Read the full release here: https://bit.ly/4c6Vnx5.

Physicians across CVAUSA are at the forefront of new, innovative, life-saving procedures like Renal Denervation. Dr. Art Lee of The Cardiac & Vascular Institute (pictured here) in Central Florida celebrates his first Renal Denervation procedure. Several physicians at The Cardiac and Vascular Institute have also been experiencing successful outcomes performing this new treatment for patients. In May, Dr. Mark Steiner of The Cardiovascular Center of Florida in Orlando performed the first commercial case of Renal Denervation in Central Florida and the second in the state of Florida. Renal Denervation is a minimally invasive procedure that provides a new option for managing high blood pressure (hypertension) in patients who have not responded sufficiently to traditional medication regimens.
