In a world where we spend a staggering $200 billion annually on cybersecurity, it's time to ask ourselves: Are we investing in the right areas? In a recent interview, Howard Ting, CEO of Cyberhaven shared a thought-provoking perspective on the cybersecurity landscape. While most organizations pour their budgets into securing infrastructure—networks, devices, and the cloud. Howard argues that we're spending a lot to protect what's being rented while the real value lies in our data. Data, is after all the only asset with terminal value. 💡 Shift from infrastructure security to data centric security models: Just as homeowners insure their own properties, organizations should prioritize protecting their own data, rather than the rented infrastructure. This shift in focus could lead to a new era of data-centric security models, creating massive winners in the process. 🔐 Traditional Data Loss Prevention doesn't work anymore: Instead of merely preventing loss, we should be managing the risk associated with data flow. For instance, during tax season, employees often share sensitive information via personal emails, triggering alarms that don't account for context.
