Why are credit unions struggling to reach younger generations? Credit unions, known for being more personalized and having lower rates, seem like a no-brainer for the financially savvy and socially conscious Gen Z and Millenials. Despite this, over the past decade, memberships declined amongst Millenials and Gen X and remained stagnant with Gen Z. It appears younger generations see more value in big banks. Credit unions need to upgrade their tech and target younger generations to make it as the competitive landscape and member expectations change. Outdated tech and marketing strategies won’t acquire younger members. Credit unions need to have the infrastructure for hyper-personalized offers, easy-to-use mobile banking interfaces, a killer social media marketing plan, and member loyalty programs that can compete with the services banks and fintechs have to offer. Credit unions need: 👉 The tech infrastructure for hyper-personalized experiences. 👉 To strengthen their digital marketing efforts, especially on social media, and engage younger audiences. 👉Creating loyalty programs that provide unique value that differs from larger financial providers. I loved Sukhman Dulay presentation on the Future of Cu Rewards and Loyalty at #CUTF2024 Not only is his energy unmatched, he took us on a deep dive into the world of loyalty and rewards programs. I had never even considered CUs having been a leader in rewards programs through patronage! And how many ways we can customize and take these programs to serve our members while sticking true to our support of our local business markets. Cus hold 70% of the small business market in Canada, we need these programs.
