About us
Daedalus is a premier structural design and service-oriented engineering firm with over 35 years of experience, aiming to provide structural solutions that help enable better architecture or unrealized architectural design opportunities. We constantly challenge the norms of traditionally accepted engineering standards to help our clients achieve their desired architecture and design aesthetics, and we work in close collaboration with owners, contractors, architects, and all team members to determine the best and most cost-effective construction solutions. Our projects range from high end custom residential homes to 12 story mass timber buildings. Understanding that the built environment contributes to global warming in such a big way, we are working to promote sustainable building practices to help protect resources for future generations. We are passionate about building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable work environment for our staff and our project teams. We believe that every team member enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and to discover, design and deliver solutions.

The glulam ridges and rafters double as structural framing and interior finishes in many spaces. Prefabricated walls were used to improve erection time. As a civic project, many of the cost barriers were overcome with efficiency in prefabricated construction and framing simplicity. The building functions as both a community space and a Category IV structure to allow re-occupancy after a hazard.

We are honored to receive the SEAONC SEE Award of Merit for Best Small Project/Best Small Firm Project for the Los Altos Community Center, a rewarding project recently completed in collaboration with Noll & Tam Architects, Gonsalves & Stronck Construction Company, Inc., MIG, OMM, and Integral Mechanical. Exposed timber framing creates a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the building. Glulam rafters and trusses, along with cedar trellises, and vast views of the beautifully landscaped courtyard add a biophilic connection for guests. Cantilevered steel columns are designed to bridge the many stepped roofs and to meet the more stringent seismic demands. This LEED Gold equivalent building is not only environmentally friendly but can also function as an emergency shelter, providing a safe space during times of need. Thank you to Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) for organizing this great event and for recognizing Structural Engineering Excellence.
