On July 11, during a congressional hearing, Christy Goldsmith Romero, the nominee for the head of the FDIC, testified that banks should be permitted to custody crypto assets. When questioned by Senator Cynthia Lummis, Romero emphasized that crypto is “another business just like any other business” and clarified her stance that it is not the FDIC’s role to dictate which assets banks can hold or custody.
