Foster-based nonprofit saving North Texas companion animals through rescue, education & adoption. #DallasPetsAlive
About us
Our organization is run mainly by volunteers and all of our pets are housed by dedicated foster families throughout North Texas. We rescue and help the healthy and treatable animals at greatest risk for euthanasia at our partner shelters. We also provide assistance and resources to pet owners having problems so significant that they need to surrender their pets to a shelter. We are challenging the way our community views rescue animals. Adoption is not only the right thing to do but THE thing to do! Adoptable Faye would love to invite you to check out her profile, and the profile of the other DPA adoptable dogs, cats, and 🐷on our website! Click the link to find a new four (or sometimes three) legged family member today! dallaspetsalive.org
Adopt Faye! Faye is a sweet 13-year-old brown cocker spaniel with a heart full of love and a spirit eager for a new beginning. Found guarding her late owner, Faye’s devotion and resilience speak volumes about her gentle nature and loyal character. Despite her past, Faye is a friendly and sociable girl who thrives in the company of other dogs and is always ready to be the life of the party. She’s a shadowy sidekick who will follow you everywhere, ensuring that you’ll never feel alone. Faye’s beautiful coat had to be shaved due to severe matting, but her charming personality shines through as she waits for her fur to grow back. She’s ready to embrace a future filled with affection, playtime, and the warmth of a loving home. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will fill your life with joy and loyalty, Faye is eager to be your best friend and make every day brighter. https://lnkd.in/gaaU-KRm

We are very proud of the Dogs Matter program. Stephen Knight is the brains behind starting this fantastic program. We are very proud that he is nominated as a CNN Hero! 👇🏼Let’s congratulate Stephen for all the life saving work he is doing to help make North-Texas no-kill!
The pup with the ball! Piper was rescued from Dallas Animal Services by Dogs Matter when her owner was in treatment and left a domestic violence situation. The owner's abuser ended up abusing Piper so badly she finally escaped his backyard. Animal control picked her up, and she ended up on the euthanasia list due to aggression caused by her trauma. Dogs Matter got her out and I fostered Piper so her owner could stay in treatment. Piper took months to decompress and trust anyone again. The owner did well for a while and reunited with Piper but after a year went back to her abuser and relapsed. I promised her I would foster Piper until she would get sober and on her own. Sadly, the owner lost her battle with her addiction in 2021 and I ended up adopting Piper to make sure she would have the best life. We can’t always save the client but we can always save the dog.

We're overjoyed to announce that our very own Stephen Knight has been honored as one of the 2024 CNN Heroes Top 10 💙 This award celebrates extraordinary individuals making a difference in the world. Stephen Knight, founder of Dogs Matter , is recognized for his incredible work supporting those battling addiction while also caring for their beloved pets during recovery. DPA has had the pleasure of partnering with Stephen and his team closely, leading up to our merge last year, when we welcomed Dogs Matter in as an official department of Dallas Pets Alive. With nearly 14 years of sobriety, Stephen's journey with Dogs Matter is deeply personal. After helping a friend who struggled with addiction and needed a safe place for her dog while they entered treatment, he realized the urgent need for fostering in the recovery community. This led to the creation of Dogs Matter, which has helped over 1,500 dogs and their owners since 2015 by providing free temporary foster care for their precious pups. In addition to his work with Dogs Matter, Stephen is also a dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor and Program Director at Legacy Cares, where he oversees an Intensive Outpatient program for individuals facing HIV and substance abuse challenges. He shares his life in Dallas with his three dogs, Jayde, Piper, and Lady. Let’s rally together with CNN Heroes as we cheer him on for the title of 2024 CNN Hero of the Year! Follow along for the chance to see Stephen selected for the Top 5 on October 31st!
