Inspiring & Changing Lives Through Musical Excellence

About us

The Dallas Symphony's mission statement is to inspire and change lives through musical excellence. Since 1900, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has grown from a 40-person ensemble to a world-class orchestra performing in one of the world's finest concert halls. The home of the DSO, the Meyerson Symphony Center is just as integral to the sound of the music as the musicians themselves. The members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's musical community build upon a rich 111-year tradition of artistic excellence and masterful musicianship. The DSO is committed to inspiring the broadest possible audience with distinctive classical programs, inventive pops concerts and innovative multi-media presentations. The DSO's annual gala is just around the corner, and we are excited to introduce this year's Co-Chairs, Patrick Harris and Laura Harris-Means! Since the start of the year these two have been preparing for the DSO's largest annual fundraising event which benefits the orchestra’s education and community outreach initiatives. Laura Harris-Means says, “It is my honor to co-chair the annual Dallas Symphony Orchestra gala with my husband, Patrick. As the biggest fundraiser of the year, it helps to fund the many programs the DSO offers in the community...As a former violinist, I understand the value of the arts and a musical education; but it’s not lost on me that it can be a financial burden for families. Thanks to the DSO’s community programs, the next great musician may be discovered right here in Dallas, in large part through generous support of the gala.” To learn more about this year's Gala, visit https://bit.ly/3WnQOc5.

BIG NEWS! The Dallas Symphony is thrilled to announce the appointment of Michelle Miller Burns as our next Ross Perot President and CEO. Burns has been President and CEO of the Minnesota Orchestra since 2018 where she has done incredible work, including launching a multi-year revenue growth plan to increase both contributed and earned revenue for the organization; and leading the charge in the development of Minnesota’s strategic plan, which redefined the role of an orchestra in its community. Prior to her time in Minnesota, she was the DSO’s Interim President & CEO and the Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Chief Operating Officer. We can’t wait to welcome her back to Dallas as our next leader – she will begin her tenure on September 23, 2024. Welcome, Michelle! Read More: https://bit.ly/3L1FzQj

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the abolishment of slavery in the United States and officially became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. Originating in Galveston, Texas, Juneteenth was first observed on June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black people in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation. As we celebrate this momentous day in our country’s history, let us stand in solidarity to denounce all forms of racism, hate, and discrimination.

Once again, it was another full house in one of the world’s musical capitals as highlighted by Scott Cantrell of The Dallas Morning News. From last night's "electrifying Tchaikovsky Pathétique" that captivated audiences in Vienna to "brilliant" performances of John Williams' Violin Concerto No. 2, with violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter in Munich and Hamburg — we'd like to give our biggest thanks to Cantrell and the DMN for joining us and covering the DSO's European Tour. We are humbled and thrilled to report, we've "done Dallas proud."
