About us

Darkroom is a progressive growth marketing and digital strategy firm focused on growth-stage B2C companies. Our team has been responsible for over a billion dollars in trackable revenue for hundreds of commerce, retail, software, and B2C businesses. Using research aggregated across these engagements, we accelerate results for our portfolio by developing high-impact digital strategies that unlock gateways to revenue growth, transform marketing operations, and prioritize profitability. SERVICES: Darkroom strictly focuses on developing the next-generation of digital services. We choose to add impact in the areas where brands presently need them most and have significant in-house deficiencies. Core Darkroom service verticals include Marketplace Management, Organic Growth, Paid Media Management, and Customer Retention, among others. We are the only performance agency with a design-grade creative team and a certified Chief Creative Officer. These creative sensibilities are infused into our growth marketing teams by design. Our suite of strategic marketing services is threaded by our research institute Darkroom University, and a suite of software tools, many of which we have invested in through our venture vehicle, Darkmatter. We have been recognized as one of the fastest growing private companies in America by Inc. 5000 (2023), a top 1% digital advertiser by Varos (2023), and our founders were named Forbes 30 Under 30 recipients for Marketing and Advertising North America (2024). Darkroom is parent to Spice, the performance marketing engine for restaurants.

I'm thrilled to announce that Darkroom is launching two new services: ✌️ 1. "DarkArts" — Dedicated Creative (Design + Video Editing) Since launching in Q3, we've been able to service global brands like Burton and Amazon, and startups like Valuable Studios and TALA with any design, motion, or video deliverable they need (ie paid ads, email designs, presentation decks, and more). DM me if you're interested in how it works! 2. Organic Social as a Service Organic Social has not been a service we've offered historically. We felt it was a function better served in-house with brands. But after much observation across dozens of brands, we feel we have a unique structure that brings value. We’ve always felt held back without the ability to directly impact organic reach and following for our clients—when CAC is such a pivotal leverage point in eCom. We’re officially opening up our waitlist for this service starting this month—already in high demand. ...AND I have to give a special shoutout to our recruitment team - who has been firing on all cylinders to keep up with service demand. In Q3, we had over 8,000 applicants, took 234 interviews, and made 18 hires. 🫣

September recap at Darkroom: Last month was heads-down in New York. Our major milestone was launching DarkArts -- creative retainers for growth marketing teams, more on that later this week. Here's the full last month's breakdown: → Hosted our NYFW event with FERMÀT and Amazon. Met Steve Hult Connor Ling and Nadim El-Asmar. Recap vid attached. → Launched DedCool on Amazon. Shouts to Matt Lewis and Carina Chaz for the collaborative partnership. → Expanded our creative team by 4 hires. Brough on new Associate Directors in Angelina De Lucas. It is really clear that we have built the strongest creative teams in the growth marketing space, grounded by best-in-class design. → Our recruiting team accepted over 8,000 applicants last quarter, hiring only 18 new Darkroomers. I am amazed at the breadth and speed of our hiring process. Big props to Violet Selznick and Lucas Caloi Stinchi here. → Honing in on new office space in New York City to be the Darkroom flagship. We will still be remote-first, but looking for more in-person opportunities with our growing community on the East Coast. → Closed about 10 new partnerships across marketplaces, media, creative, and retention with top consumer brands. Excited to see the work that comes out of those partnerships. Q4 will be big for us with a number of service and client announcements. Will continue to update. If you want to keep up with how we’re building out the Darkroom ecosystem, follow along here.

Here’s the story behind Sauz, one of the hottest brands in CPG. We met the Sauz founders (Troy Bonde / Winston Alfieri) when they were undergrads at USC with the idea to launch a fun tomato sauce brand that shook up the space. The premise was simple: the tomato sauce aisle was boring from a design perspective... All heritage Italian brands with the same packaging. So they decided to introduce a new brand with bold designs and flavor innovation. We designed for retail, understanding that retail would be the primary battleground for winning consumers. There’s a reason this sauce is the number 1 and 2 best-selling sauce in Erewhon. Product and Packaging, together. My co-founder Jackson Corey led and executed some of the most masterful design in CPG. He deserves a lot of credit for the identity work. Coefficient Capital just led their series seed. Modern Retail just published a full feature. This is a brand to watch.
