Dartmouth Cancer Center recently celebrated the expansion of its radiation/oncology unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics Manchester with a beam-raising ceremony last week, expanding access to comprehensive cancer care in southern New Hampshire from the state’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The expansion coincides with Dartmouth Cancer Center’s clinical and hematology/oncology infusion services in Manchester moving to the clinic from the Notre Dame Pavilion at CMC, giving patients greater access and efficiency in their care and treatment. “The co-location of cancer services on the Manchester campus and the introduction of radiation oncology services in the southern region will enable us to deliver more coordinated care for our patients throughout the greater Manchester, Concord and Nashua communities,” said Pamela Hofley, MD, medical director of the Manchester clinic. “We are excited to grow the extraordinary group of committed caregivers here and we look forward to working together to benefit our region.” https://lnkd.in/eVTVxwdE

While recreational cannabis remains illegal in New Hampshire, about half of the U.S. has legalized marijuana, including all of the states surrounding New Hampshire. Tens of millions of Americans use the drug, for medical or recreational purposes — most of them without problems. But with more people consuming more potent cannabis more often, a growing number, mostly chronic users, are enduring serious health consequences, and doctors are contending with the effects of an explosion in the use of the drug and its intensity. Many physicians have reported growing numbers of patients with cannabis-induced temporary psychosis. As Dartmouth Health addiction psychiatrist Luke Archibald, MD, told The New York Times, one such patient he treated was charged with trespassing after following the directions of voices he hallucinated. https://lnkd.in/eZzYCwCn

We've worked collaboratively for many years across multiple services, including cardiology, oncology, pathology and radiology. Earlier this month, our teams celebrated this monumental moment together as we officially waved the Dartmouth Health flag at Valley Regional Hospital. Together we are stronger and making strides for our communities for years to come! #WeAreDartmouthHealth

Valley Regional Hospital officially joined the Dartmouth Health system on July 31, 2024. Dartmouth Health and Valley Regional have worked collaboratively for many years across multiple services, including cardiology, oncology, pathology and radiology. This official affiliation builds upon the existing relationship and enables the formal integration of its clinical, administrative and financial resources to sustain efficient, high-quality care. Last week, our teams and affiliates from across Dartmouth Health system celebrated this monumental moment together as we officially waved the Dartmouth Health flag. Together we are stronger and making strides for our communities for years to come! As a Dartmouth Health member hospital, Valley Regional’s patients will experience improved access and expanded specialty care, including mental health, substance use treatment and women’s health. “The benefit to our patients, families and rural communities will be substantial, including investments in future services and infrastructure and enhanced research opportunities to continue providing the best in innovative, cutting-edge, world-class care. Dartmouth Health is woven into the fabric of the communities we serve, and now Claremont and its surrounding communities will formally be a part of that fabric. We couldn’t be more excited about Valley Regional Hospital becoming a member of Dartmouth Health.” said Joanne M. Conroy, MD, CEO and president of Dartmouth Health.

We had a great time at NAMIWalks NH earlier this month. This is the state’s largest mental health awareness and suicide prevention event, and NAMI New Hampshire (National Alliance on Mental Illness) does a wonderful job organizing it. Every fall, thousands of Granite Staters lace up their sneakers and walk together through Concord to stomp out the stigma and unite under the rallying call: Mental Health for All! Thanks to all who joined the Dartmouth Health team, led by Carol Townsend and Heather Martin, and those who stopped by our table at the event. 💚

Dartmouth Health Advanced Response Team has received a transformational monetary gift through the final will and testament of a former patient. A $6.7 million gift from the estate of Les Haynes to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics will be used to initiate a phased expansion of DHART that stands to transform its ability to reach patients in every community across northern New England, no matter how remote. “DHART has been operating for 30 years, and as many towns’ ambulances face staffing or funding shortages, and local hospitals have been forced to reduce specialty care programs, the demand for our services has only increased,” said DHART director Mike Mulhern. “With this generous gift, we will begin enacting a plan to address these challenges and significantly expand our fleet and team.” 🚑🚁 https://lnkd.in/dVCzVAFE
