Data sovereignty is no longer about ticking off compliance boxes; it’s about building trust, transparency, and lasting relationships with stakeholders. A recent article by Piyush Mehta, CEO of Data Dynamics, in BigDATAwire (formerly Datanami), frames data as a “digital citizen”—an entity that demands both respect and accountability. This perspective goes beyond regulation, advocating for data control as a core business value that aligns with organizational goals, drives innovation, and, most importantly, builds trust. The stakes are high: without a sovereignty framework, organizations risk exposing sensitive information, creating fractured relationships, and losing stakeholder trust. But what steps can businesses take? Piyush recommends a proactive, sovereignty-first approach, embedding data control across every business layer—from the C-suite to data and application owners. Here’s how: ➡️Redefine Data as a Trusted Asset, Not Just a Resource: Think of data as a stakeholder with shared rights and responsibilities. This shift encourages organizations to handle data with the same respect and integrity as any valued partner, building internal and external trust. ➡️Align Data Stewardship with Business Goals at Every Level: Move beyond isolated data policies. Integrate sovereignty across departments—from product development to HR—so each function actively contributes to a cohesive, security-first data culture. ➡️Leverage Data Sovereignty as a Platform for Ethical Innovation: Use responsible data management as a foundation for growth. When data is managed with respect, it creates a safer space for innovation, transforming sovereignty into a long-term catalyst for resilience and market leadership. As Piyush puts it, "True data sovereignty isn’t just about protecting information; it’s about empowering organizations to use data ethically and transparently as a foundation for innovation and trust-building. When data is respected as a core asset, it becomes a catalyst for growth and resilience in an increasingly data-driven world." So, here we are, almost in 2025, and data management? It's gotten intense. Data is multiplying fast, and so are the calls for airtight privacy and compliance. It’s no longer enough to just store data; it’s shared, analyzed, shipped across borders, and woven into every part of business. Every organization today holds the keys to sensitive information—and it’s no longer a question of if this data will be targeted but when. The latest IDC paper, in collaborate with Data Dynamics , explores the "new frontier" in data security and presents a wake-up call: our traditional defenses aren’t keeping up. The classic, siloed approach to data protection has to evolve into something more comprehensive and collaborative—a concept IDC calls the “shared responsibility model.” What does this mean? It means that security can’t be confined to the IT department anymore. In a world of interconnected data and cross-border transactions, security is everyone’s responsibility - from boardroom to breakroom. What does that mean in real terms? Security isn’t just for IT anymore. With data crossing borders and connecting every corner of an organization, it’s everyone’s job—from the boardroom to the breakroom. The shared responsibility model puts #datacontrol in the hands of those who actually create it—data and application owners (who better to act and control the data than those who create it?). They gain the visibility and control to discover, define, act on, transform, and audit data without relying on IT. It’s decentralized, but it works because a central governance framework keeps it all together. The result? Greater agility, better collaboration, and a more proactive approach to risk. Why this matters: ➡️Cross-border Complexity: Data is more global than ever, but the regulatory landscape is intensely local. Each jurisdiction has unique standards for #dataprotection, making compliance a maze that’s tough to navigate. ➡️Data Sovereignty vs. Business Agility: Countries are enforcing stricter data localization rules, challenging organizations to balance compliance with operational efficiency. How do you stay agile if your data is chained to specific locations? The Ripple Effect: Outdated security models aren’t just putting data at risk; they’re undermining customer trust and loyalty. As breaches multiply, companies must realize that building robust security systems isn’t only about compliance—it’s about trust, democracy, and transparency, down to data owner layer. In short, securing data in the modern world requires more than firewalls and passwords. It demands a shift in mindset, where every team member, every vendor, and every department is part of the shield protecting sensitive information. By creating a culture where everyone is a guardian of #data, organizations don’t just protect themselves from breaches—they lay the foundation for a future built on trust, #resilience, & collective accountability. We all love the tech that keeps amazing us every day. But amidst all the innovation, let's not lose sight of what truly matters—people. They are the heart of everything we achieve, and it's essential to recognize and celebrate them as our greatest asset. You might be surprised to learn that 92% of U.S. executives now believe skills like empathy and emotional intelligence are more important than ever. This really highlights a shift from just a knowledge-based economy to one that thrives on relationships. Success is no longer just about what you know; it’s about how you connect with others. As we embrace all these technological advancements, we also need to prioritize nurturing the human skills that drive collaboration and innovation. Investing in soft skills isn't just about ticking off a box on a professional development checklist; it’s crucial for building resilience and adaptability in our teams. In an age increasingly shaped by AI, those who shine in emotional intelligence will be at the forefront, making sure technology enhances the human experience rather than replaces it. So, how can we weave these essential skills into our workplaces? We recommend checking out Aneesh Raman’s insights on developing human skills for the future of work. Balancing tech savvy with genuine human connection might just be the secret to unlocking incredible potential for your organization. Let’s champion a culture that values both innovation and humanity! #Technology #Humanskills #AI #workplace #workculture
Being pro-human in the age of AI means asking what’s possible - not what’s left - for humans in the age of AI. And that means focusing as much attention on human capability as we do on technological capability. It’s not surprising to me that 92% of U.S. executives agree that people skills are more important than ever. Businesses are starting to realize that our uniquely human skills are about to become our most important assets. But one of the questions I’m asked most often from business leaders is – can you really teach and train for human skills like empathy and emotional intelligence? Aren’t these skills you either have or you don’t? My answer never wavers: we absolutely can teach and train these skills, and we absolutely will have to if we want our organizations and teams to stay resilient as AI continues to advance. The companies that succeed in this new era for our economy - as we shift from the knowledge economy to the relationship economy - will succeed because they have the best talent. To help you get started, LinkedIn Learning just released 6 new learning paths on critical human skills for the age of AI – this includes 36 courses (including my new course!) that are free for anyone to take through the end of the year to build up key skills like communication, creativity, and emotional intelligence. As companies race to leverage AI and cloud technologies, they’re unintentionally burning millions. The “State of Cloud Usage Optimization 2024” report revealed a chilling fact: 78% of businesses admit that at least 21% of their cloud budget is wasted annually. Some firms are losing over $75,000 per month due to preventable errors. These aren’t small oversights—they’re costly, compounding mistakes that could cost you billions in the long run. The root of the issue? The growing complexity of AI. AI workloads demand vast amounts of data storage and computing power, and most companies aren't fully optimizing their cloud usage. Think about this: every time you retain unnecessary data, or size your instances incorrectly, you're draining resources that could fuel innovation or innovation, growth, or even profitability. Worse yet, 93% of companies admit at least 10% of their cloud spend is going down the drain. But here’s where we can make a difference: implementing a cloud optimization strategy that reduces data bloat, aligns workloads with demand, and leverages data analytics to identify inefficiencies. By analyzing data usage patterns, companies can optimize instance sizing and automate data retention policies, cutting unnecessary costs while ensuring resources are directed to where they matter most. This isn’t just about saving money—it’s about turning potential waste into actionable insights and fueling sustainable growth. Ashish Nadkarni #Zubin #AI #Cloudmigration

Data Sovereignty: The Cornerstone of AI-Powered Innovation Data is everywhere today—fueling innovation, driving decisions, and, let’s be honest, keeping us all a little on edge. With AI evolving at breakneck speed and data flowing across borders like never before, businesses are facing a whole new set of challenges. Piyush Mehta, CEO of Data Dynamics, dives right into this in his latest article for Unite.AI, discussing how data sovereignty isn’t just a compliance box to tick anymore—it’s a strategic necessity. The landscape is shifting fast, and if companies don’t start taking control of their data now, they might just find themselves playing catch-up in a world where control and trust are everything. Now, more than ever, organizations need to wake up to the fact that data sovereignty is their way to gaining a competitive advantage. Sure, regulations are one reason to care, but Piyush makes it clear there’s more at stake here. In an AI-driven world, the risks of relinquishing control over sensitive information could stifle innovation and erode public confidence. And nobody wants that. "The ability to empower organizations to control their data is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity in the AI era," says Piyush. It’s like trying to win a race without knowing who’s steering the car. Data sovereignty gives businesses the wheel, letting them navigate the AI landscape with confidence and, crucially, trust. So, what’s the fix? Piyush offers a forward-thinking solution: build data sovereignty into the DNA of your systems—what he calls "sovereignty by design." No more scrambling to patch things up when issues pop up. Instead, design AI systems that keep data protected from the get-go, shifting organizations from being reactive to proactive, embedding data protection into the very fabric of AI technologies. With this proactive approach, businesses can stay ahead of the curve, protect citizens' rights, and still keep innovation humming along. For insights and practical steps to implement 'sovereignty by design,' dive into the article linked in the comments below. Bytes to Rights. Own it. In a world overflowing with data, especially the unstructured kind, one thing is clear: people want more control over their personal information. The World Economic Forum recently found that 76% of consumers are demanding greater say over how their data is handled. This shift puts immense pressure on businesses not just to secure data but to offer transparency and control to the very people generating it. So, how do businesses balance this growing demand for citizen control with the need to manage mountains of data effectively? In the latest episode of The Leader’s Take, Angshuman Debraj, our Global Leader for Pre-Sales, dives deep into how ZUBIN, our recently launched AI-powered self-service data management software, answers that challenge. Designed to meet the need for greater transparency, ZUBIN offers businesses the tools to manage data on a unified platform, giving them full control and visibility over vast, complex data landscapes—whether it’s about addressing security, privacy, data sovereignty, risk, optimization, or sustainability. But here’s the real game-changer: ZUBIN doesn’t just centralize data management for IT or corporate teams. It empowers data creators and application owners—those closest to the data itself—to take control. In a world where people expect more say over their data, ZUBIN extends that same philosophy to businesses, letting them give control to the right people. With its intuitive, low-code interface, it enables everyone—from senior leaders to data stewards—to manage, optimize, secure, and audit data with just a click. In simpler terms, ZUBIN aligns with the growing call for data sovereignty, giving organizations the ability to meet consumer expectations by ensuring that control isn’t limited to a few—it’s democratized across the business. 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 - by IDC and Data Dynamics. Tap to read: https://lnkd.in/ddcf6tNN Data management has come a long way. It’s no longer just about checking off privacy and security boxes to meet compliance standards. Today, businesses are grappling with the triple challenge of data sovereignty, citizen data rights, and the AI explosion. And with hybrid cloud setups becoming the norm, traditional data security approaches are starting to feel outdated, creating gaps and leaving organizations vulnerable to compliance risks. One of the key issues is the disconnect between the people creating the data and the security teams trying to protect it. The IDC March 2024 Data Privacy Survey found that nearly half of organizations don’t have a clear map of their sensitive data, and complexity is making things worse. With security efforts fragmented, companies are constantly playing catch-up. The result? Slower business operations and a higher risk of regulatory penalties. Organizations have to rethink their existing data security practices. It cannot be just an “IT responsibility” any more. As 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗻, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗜𝗗𝗖 rightly points out, “AI-driven businesses must ensure the security and privacy of their data to instill trust with their customers and partners and comply with data sovereignty requirements. This requires rethinking how data is harnessed and managed.” Data Dynamics recently published a whitepaper in collaboration with IDC titled Rethinking Data Security: Improving Privacy and Compliance with a Shared Approach - introduces a smart fix: the shared responsibility model. Instead of leaving security entirely to IT, it empowers data creators to take control while a centralized system ensures policies stay consistent. “Organizations that integrate centralized data governance with decentralized action are better able to extract value from their data, by ensuring it remains available to the right users and devices whenever it is needed”, says Jennifer Glenn. For a deeper dive into tackling data security challenges and implementing the shared responsibility model, explore the IDC whitepaper. It’s packed with best practices and insights that bridge the gap between data creators and security teams, offering a clear path to shift from reactive to proactive management with self-service data management. #Datasecurity #datamanagement #Dataprivacy #Datacompliance #AI
