In honor of #InternationalWomensDay tomorrow (March 8th), we would like to celebrate all the incredible women who have paved the way in bridging social, economic, cultural, and political gaps that once existed, as well as celebrate women who continue to push forward for a better and brighter future. We especially want to honor women veterans who have served with distinction and sacrifice. These remarkable women have not only defended our nation, but continue to navigate civilian life head strong, demonstrating continued resilience and determination. Through Data Elevates’ #VeteransinData initiative, we're turning appreciation into opportunity and recognition into real change. We’re celebrating our amazing team and project collaborators, most of whom are women veterans, who make our Impacting Communities Through Data program possible. This program equips 200 women veterans with the data skills, community, and networking to jumpstart their careers in STEM. Watch Bianca M., our Data Skills Trainer (and a recently separated veteran herself), who shares her journey and more about the program. Huge thanks to our collaborators, advisory board, and team for making this program possible! Keshia J. Ashley (Kathleen) Camac, Jessica Haik, Tomika W. About us
Data Elevates (DE) understands the power of data to improve quality of life, particularly in low and middle income countries (LMICs). However, these countries are also the most often left behind in the data revolution. DE addresses this issue head on through data analytics trainings in underserved areas, capacity building efforts, project-base work leveraging LMIC university relationships, and data analytics collaborations between public and private sector. All of these lines of work are designed to empower the next generation of data to insight specialists.

We at Zero8Hundred are proud to announce that we are collaborating with Data Elevates and Foundation for Women Warriors on a new initiative for women veterans. If you have any questions DM me or go to www.zero8hundred.org. About the ICTD Program The Impacting Communities Through Data (ICTD) six-week program is designed to equip women-identifying veterans with essential data analysis and visualization skills while providing the ability to make meaningful contributions to local environmental and social impact research, specifically through community-based projects utilizing real-world datasets from San Diego State University (SDSU) and its community partners. The ICTD program is part of a service learning National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded research that is being conducted by University of Houston's College of Engineering research team. Therefore, you will be asked to give your consent to participate in this research (for any questions regarding the research and what it entails, please contact us at info@dataelevates.com). This fully online program combines individual and group work and allows for participants to access materials and complete assignments independently, on their own schedule, within the time frame of the program, and each participant will spend an estimate of 40 hours in total over the six weeks. Those who complete the program will receive an $820 stipend as recognition for their time and resources spent participating. Depending on your cohort selection, expected wait time is 3–6 months before beginning the program. Cohort 1 will start on 04/07/2025, and Cohort 3 will end on 11/28/2025. Privacy Statement The ICTD Program collects personal information including your name, contact details, veteran status, and gender identity to process your application and facilitate program participation. As part of our NSF-funded research, we also gather data about your program participation and learning outcomes. Your information is accessed by ICTD program administrators, all of whom are bound by confidentiality agreements. We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including encryption and restricted access controls. For questions about your data privacy or to exercise your rights, contact info@dataelevates.com. We retain your information for the duration of the program and research period, as required by NSF grant requirements and applicable laws.

We have paused our posts in light of the recent federal administration orders regarding #USAID and foreign assistance, which has deeply affected many individuals and organizations in our community. As we navigate these changes together, we will resume sharing updates on our non-USAID activities. We remain committed to our mission of using data and technology for social good and bridging the digital skills gap between the tech industry and underserved communities to empower organizations and individuals. We look forward to continuing this journey with you.

Over the past five years, Data Elevates has been dedicated to leveraging digital tools and data to support smallholder farmers and agricultural organizations in building more resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems. One of our key projects emerged during a pivotal moment: the #COVID19 pandemic. The disruptions to food access highlighted a critical gap—many food systems stakeholders, including nonprofits, policymakers, and community leaders, lacked access to reliable data needed to design impactful programs and make informed decisions. In response, as part of the Local and Regional Food Systems Response to COVID: Recovery and Resilience Initiative project led by USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service, we developed the Food & Agriculture Mapper & Explorer. Launched in 2023, this user-friendly platform visualizes ~300 equity-focused indicators, categorized into five key areas—labor, local food sales, business development, community resources, and nutrition security. Over 10,000 users have compared this data at county, regional, and national levels to gain critical insights into their local food systems. Happy New Year! As we welcome 2025, we also celebrate a major milestone: 5 years of empowering communities through data. Over the past five years, we’ve been privileged to partner with local universities, community organizations, and governments across the globe. Together, we’ve worked on transformative projects that build data capacity for individuals and organizations to address pressing challenges. We’re celebrating this milestone by sharing the stories of 5 defining projects that not only shaped our journey but reflect the power of data-driven solutions in creating sustainable futures. Each project reflects the resilience, creativity, and collaboration of communities we’ve worked with. In this series, you’ll see how communities have: - Strengthened their data literacy to address local development needs - Built sustainable networks to foster a culture of data-informed decision-making - Developed actionable insights to tackle global challenges like health, food security, and economic growth - Created new career opportunities by graduating from our data literacy programs #DataforGood #DataLiteracy #DE5YearAnniversary

How can we improve outcomes for veterans by addressing the root causes of mental health, homelessness, and workforce gaps? Earlier this month our co-founder, Prem Durairaj, attended Zero8Hundred’s Annual Townhall, where they explored veterans' transition to civilian life through a social work lens. The event highlighted how Zero8Hundred uses data to optimize resources and design tailored programs that support veterans during and after their military separation. We’re excited to collaborate with Zero8Hundred on our upcoming service-learning program, Impacting Communities Through Data, helping women veterans build the confidence and skills to pursue careers in data. Read the press release in the comments to learn more. A big thank you to Ashley (Kathleen) Camac and the entire team for hosting this event! #veteransupport #workforcedevelopment

This year, we decided to put our own spin on Spotify Wrapped! Every year Spotify Wrapped goes viral, bringing data-driven insights into pop culture. By turning #data into personalized stories for each music listener, Spotify shows a deep understanding of its community and how to engage with them. This is an important lesson for organizations across sectors. - How are you using your data? - Is it being translated into compelling narratives that inspire action? - Or are you using it to improve services and better meet the needs of your community? It all comes down to data maturity. Collecting, analyzing, and sharing data in a way that drives impact. From mapping food systems to strengthening health systems in Cambodia, we use this approach to guide clients in using data more effectively to drive change and improve services. Learn more in our playbook, created in partnership with DataDotOrg, to discover how organizations at every stage of the data maturity continuum can use data more effectively: https://lnkd.in/g3UQpJpD #DataForGood #DataMaturity #SpotifyWrapped

This Thanksgiving week, we are especially grateful to welcome two new team members, Kristina Bullington and Bianca M.! Bianca, our Data Skills Trainer, excels at translating complex data concepts into actionable insights tailoring her teaching approach to diverse learners. Drawing from her experience in military intelligence operations and healthcare, Bianca delivers training rooted in practical, real-world relevance. Tina, our Project Coordinator, brings hands-on experience managing service-learning initiatives and informal education workshops. She blends her skills in program management and communication to connect students with community centered projects that drive meaningful social impact. Together, they will play key roles in shaping our new National Science Foundation (NSF) funded program that will train over 200 women veterans in data skills. We’re excited to see the positive impact they’ll make as part of our team and look forward to what we can accomplish together! #dataforgood #workforcedevelopment
