Important note re the 'data mesh in decline' posts. Hopefully the misconceptions are in decline though 🤣😉
Data mesh doesn't EVER call for decentralizing everything. Literally one of the principles - and there are only 4 - uses the word federated. That means there's still a centralized function if local ownership and application. The only thing Zhamak* calls for is decentralizing the ownership (first principle) and the architecture (a small part of both the second and third principle, most probably weighted towards the second - long philosophical discussion...). If you decentralize everything, all you get is high quality data silos in the form of data products. Absolutely an abject failure of an outcome. There needs to be many aspects that are centrally owned and managed to at the very least give a helpful guiding hand if you want to do data mesh well (yes, Piethein Strengholt and I could probably go back and forth on this nuance 😅). I don't know where this misconception of calling for decentralizing everything came from other than a few 'industry thought leader' types early trying to muddy the concept to make a strawman argument. If you're struggling with data mesh, I offer services and can connect you to those actually implementing to ask the in depth questions holding you back. Get in touch, I'll get your implementation on track. #datamesh * I don't @ mention Zhamak on posts to save her from the million notifications she already gets 😅
