Accelerating informatics to promote collaboration across the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program community
About us
The National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) is a complementary and synergistic partnership among the CTSA Program hubs, distributed clinical data networks (PCORnet, OHDSI, ACT, TriNetX), and other partner organizations, with overall stewardship by NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. The N3C aims to improve the efficiency and accessibility of analyses using a very large row-level (patient-level) COVID-19 clinical dataset and demonstrate a novel approach for collaborative pandemic data sharing. N3C tools and resources make it simple and valuable for CTSA Program members to get engaged, connect with peers, and contribute. By promoting collaboration, N3C fosters a robust translational science informatics ecosystem that collectively develops solutions to solve clinical problems faster, more efficiently, and more effectively. We are excited to announce the next N3Community Forum! Please join us on Monday, September 9 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET / 2:00-3:00 p.m. PT for How TEFCA Improves Access to Clinical Health Data. Description: Are you an N3C investigator wondering what TEFCA is and how it impacts your work? Join us for the September 9th N3Community Forum, where Kathryn Bingman, Vice President of Interoperability Adoption at eHealth Exchange, will provide a comprehensive overview of TEFCA, including the current status and future developments, as well as implications for access to clinical data. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A session. The Trusted Exchange Framework and Common AgreementSM (TEFCASM) is an initiative based out of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology that originated after the passing of the 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act). TEFCA aims to establish governance and infrastructure for streamlined interoperability of health data, facilitating efficient and secure data sharing and access between health care systems, health plans, public health agencies, and patients. Learn how to incorporate CMS data into your research! Medicare and Medicaid Patient Data is available in the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Enclave! Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare data in its original Claims format (i.e. not converted to OMOP) linked to N3C Electronic Health Record (EHR) data via privacy preserving record linkage (PPRL) are now available in the Data Catalog. N3C is making these data available in their original vendor-derived claims format for those with experience in claims data analysis, and to increase collaboration between researchers familiar with claims and EHR-sourced data. CMS Medicaid data in OMOP format are now available in the Data Enclave. These data, along with the Medicare OMOP data added last fall, provide researchers a more complete picture of patients’ medical histories. With 16 data partners currently linking to CMS data, these resources provide additional information on 173k Medicare patients and 38k Medicaid patients, including visits, procedures, diagnoses, drugs, and other information. Researchers may access CMS data by filing a Data Use Request with the ‘CMS’ PPRL External Dataset option. For documentation, webinars, and guidance about these data, see the PPRL Module in the N3C Training Portal.
