Today, we celebrate the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This marks a time for reflection and transformation and a celebration of health and happiness. We celebrate alongside our Jewish colleagues at Davis Wright Tremaine. Shana Tovah!

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP reposted this
Last Saturday, over 60 Davis Wright Tremaine LLP volunteers, alumni, family members, and friends gathered at Green Lake in Seattle to participate in our fourth annual Walk to Defeat ALS. Team DWT walked nearly three miles and raised over $4500 towards research to find a cure for ALS. We were honored to celebrate the life and legacy of beloved Seattle partner, Bruce EH Johnson, at this event, as well as the continuing battles of our former colleagues who are living with ALS.

“The FTC has been very clear about its intentions to police these issues” DWT's AI team co-lead, Filipp Kofman, was recently featured in Bloomberg Law discussing the FTC's latest enforcement actions against misleading AI claims. Filipp emphasized the FTC's clear commitment to regulating deceptive practices in the AI industry, highlighting the agency's efforts to stretch the boundaries of its oversight. At DWT, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. This October, we join the nation in recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to honor the contributions of individuals with disabilities and promote inclusive hiring practices. We are proud to monitor our continued progress through the Disability Equality Index survey, where we recently achieved a score of 90%. This accomplishment has earned DWT recognition as one of the “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” for the third straight year.

We’re thrilled to announce that Jaime Drozd is our new firmwide managing partner. Jaime has served in a number of key leadership roles during her decade at DWT, including Vice Chair of our Executive Committee and Co-Chair of our Litigation practice. She also co-founded our Women’s Affinity Group and has launched innovative programs to support and develop early-career attorneys. Said Camilo Echavarria, chair of DWT’s Executive Committee: "Jaime is our ideal candidate. She has incredible energy and innovative ideas combined with a vision and great clarity on how to achieve the ambitious goals of our strategic plan." Said Pete Johnson, who has served for the past six months as interim managing partner: “I could not be more confident in Jaime’s ability to capture the tremendous growth opportunities that lie ahead for DWT.” Jaime was selected unanimously by an internal search committee and our Executive Committee, and confirmed last week with a vote by the partnership. Her term as managing partner begins today. Congratulations, Jaime!

We’re pleased to announce that a Florida federal judge has granted our client Big Lots' fee request against Spencer Sheehan, a prolific false advertising plaintiff’s lawyer. Judge Gregory A. Presnell awarded over $144,000 in fees, recognizing the extensive work done by Davis Wright Tremaine in defending against this meritless false advertising claim. The judge dismissed Sheehan's objections, affirming the strong case presented by the DWT team, which was led by Jacob Harper, co-chair of our class action defense and food + beverage groups, alongside Heather Canner, Joseph Meyers, Caitlyn Cowan, and Emily Parsons. Their diligent efforts not only safeguarded Big Lots from potential financial and reputational harm but also highlighted the importance of upholding integrity in class action litigation. This ruling follows the earlier dismissal of Sheehan's complaint regarding ground-coffee serving sizes, which Judge Presnell deemed "patently implausible." It’s a significant win not just for Big Lots but for fair legal practices overall.
