As natural hazard risks continue to escalate, many communities, businesses, and farms find themselves needing to build their resilience against these threats -- often at a pace faster than budgets will permit. Although federal funding can bridge those budgetary gaps, the organizations that need funding the most often fail to get it. We spoke to three experts about the challenges and best practices for securing government funding for climate resilience projects. Here's what they had to say...

Did you know the federal government has set aside $3.1 billion for agricultural producers to implement climate-smart projects. Unfortunately, as Paige Wyler explains in the clip below, many producers simply don't know about the available programs. One such program is the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQUIP), which helps agricultural producers implement conservation practices on working lands. For ideas on how to apply for an EQUIP grant and what you might be able to do with it, check out our recent webinar with Paige and the owner of Four Ridge Orchards. The webinar focuses on how Four Ridge Orchards secured EQUIP funding to implement a water conservation program: https://lnkd.in/g6bfmEDv Depending on the state where you live, EQUIP application deadlines are coming up fast throughout November and December and even the end of October. You can find a comprehensive list of upcoming deadlines here: https://lnkd.in/gSc-GRmh

Although #HurricaneMilton caused somewhere in the neighborhood of $160-$180 billion in economic losses, some experts are saying it could have been much worse. Several factors combined to help mitigate the damage Hurricane Milton was poised to inflict. Our latest blog post explores these mitigating factors to understand how much was due to luck and how much was due to controllable factors that could be replicated to mitigate future risk.

As agencies try to wrap their heads around the severity of #HurricaneMilton, they may benefit from the data collected by citizen weather observers. Many Davis weather station owners kept their stations running throughout the storm to capture important data. For example, the Davis WeatherLink Bulletin for Pinellas Park City Hall shows total rainfall of 10.6 inches and maximum wind speeds of 54 miles per hour. For reference, that station is only about 9 miles from #TropicanaField, which had its roof torn off by the storm.
