    Consumers are going cuckoo for cocoa this holiday season, as hot cocoa flavor is showing up in everything from beverages to snack bars, dairy products and even popcorn. That’s bad news for perennial favorites pumpkin and pumpkin spice, which have dropped from the top spot in purchase interest among consumers, according to research from Daymon, which powers private brands development for Advantage Solutions.     Labor Day may signal the end of summer, but the demand for private brands continues to heat up. According to FMI- The Food Industry Association, 55% of consumers are purchasing more private brands this year. Two in three people plan to celebrate this weekend, and shoppers told Numerator they will shop at grocery stores the most for those BBQ needs, more than mass and club stores. Leveraging private brands to captivate shoppers via strategic online placement and in-store displays relevant to the holiday is a winning strategy.
