Last week, we had the privilege of going on a site visit with DBR to Faldyn Elementary School ( Katy ISD). We had the opportunity to inspect and explore the installation before it’s put into use. Inside the main mechanical/electrical room, we observed the systems that keep the school running smoothly. From chillers to electrical panels, we witnessed the complexity and precision involved in fitting everything together. This experience was great since it allow us to visualize the systems we work with daily and enhance our understanding of how everything connects in real-world applications.

It's been a month since I started my internship with DBR, and I want to highlight some moments that have significantly contributed to my professional growth and appreciation for a strong work ethic. One of those moments occurred last week when I had the opportunity to attend an open tour of the Houston Zoo administrative building. Achieving Gold certification in the LEED rating system, the installation was truly inspiring. This tour ratify the hard work that different teams of architects and engineers put in to keep a building running efficiently while maintaining its functionality and aesthetics.

Standard practices have developed over the last 20 years for designing and installing network cabling for voice and data communications. Designers have come to understand the basic space requirements for Telecommunication Rooms (MDF or IDF) which are needed to house racks of networking equipment. However, a growing number of buildings across the country are implementing a new design strategy. Class 4 Fault Managed Power Systems (FMPS) allow a single telecommunication room to serve an entire building. Imagine that. All IDF rooms in every wing of your building, on every floor, can go away. I was at a job site with some of our up and coming DBR staff. It was hot and we sweated, but we loved the dust in our shoes, the grit in our teeth. DBR - McAllen would like to welcome our summer intern Gabriel Rodriguez visiting from UT-Austin. We are excited to teach him as much as he is willing to learn.
