With the huge and growing amount of sequence information out there, researchers are finding new ways to mine it all the time. In this paper, the group used the marine microbiome for bioprospecting: identifying marine microorganisms with traits that might be useful. They found antimicrobial peptides, enzymes to break down plastic, and a new CRISPR-Cas9 system! https://lnkd.in/gawyYNYS

Behind every breakthrough technology are stories. We capture them.
About us
DIGITAL CREATIVE ASSOCIATES (DCA) is a team of filmmakers and animators driven by a passion for telling the stories of emerging technologies that positively impact the world. We work with the world's leading science and technology companies to create short documentary-style films and animations that show how their technologies work and what's possible when they're in the hands of their customers.

We don't have access to the journal, but even the abstract is just mind-blowing: some bacteria can respond to a phage infection by reverse-transcribing some non-coding RNA into an ORF that codes for a toxic protein. Crazy stuff! Makes you wonder what else will be found in non-coding DNA and RNA... https://lnkd.in/gKW_G-hD

New rare and ultra-rare genetic variants have been associated with human diseases across ancestry groups-- something that would not have been possible without the rapid, cost-effective sequencing and increased computing power of the modern genomics workflow. We love following the DNA sequencing space for exactly this reason! https://lnkd.in/gRN4GmpJ

A new live attenuated vaccine for COVID is being developed. This one is administered nasally, which would be a great thing for needle-phobic patients as well as induce immunity in the nasal mucosa (which just makes sense). https://lnkd.in/eKNq-F_Y

When the first COVID vaccines were being developed, it was the first time many people had heard of mRNA vaccines. But they'd been in development for some time for other diseases. There's a new clinical trial in the UK for non-small-cell lung cancer! https://lnkd.in/eP_pb4jH

One of the things my team and I are fortunate to witness capturing stories at the edge of technology is just how many talented scientists and engineers are working to create better, more sustainable solutions to the challenges we face today. Mitra Chem is a perfect example of this, as their incredible team works to develop a more sustainable iron-based, North American battery materials supply chain for the EV industry. Thank you Heather Medina and the Mitra Chem team, and Naomi Goumillout, Jenny Nelson, and Christine Rivera of Agilent for the opportunity to help tell Mitra Chem's story. Absolutely amazing work!
"The next big green energy innovation will be in batteries..." See how Mitra Chem, along with partners like Agilent, is revolutionizing the electric vehicle industry through ion-based cathode innovations . The goal is simple: create a better more sustainable world than the one we have today. It's inspiring to see firsthand how Vasudev Lal and his team at Intel Labs dedicate their time and talent to fighting race and gender biases in generative AI. Thanks Sarah Bokich, MBA for the opportunity to tell this incredible story.
We're focused on #ResponsibleAI by reducing #LLM bias by 20%. To meet the growing demands of AI, researchers at #IntelLabs used counterfactual datasets created with RAG, powered by #IntelGaudi accelerators and #IntelXeon processors, that are now open sourced and available on Hugging Face so others can contribute to reducing existing inequalities in AI. We are honored to have the opportunity to create this 3D animation for Bruker Cellular Analysis to show how their incredible cell selection technology works using light to isolate and select cells for live single cell multiomics. Thank you Eric Hobbs for the enthusiasm, passion, and all around great spirit you bring to every collaboration with the D C A team. Big shout out to DCA lead designer/animator on this project Benjamin McDaniel, science story lead Alia Merla, and producers Theresa 'TK' Ghiloni and Vince Navarro. It's such a privilege to tell the stories of such mind-blowing technologies and work directly with the people who make them.
Understand the Life of Single-Cells with Bruker Cellular Analysis's Beacon® Platform! Our cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing the way researchers conduct live single-cell multiomics, paving the way for breakthroughs in antibody discovery, cell line development, T cell profiling, and CAR/TCR therapy.

Head and neck cancers are devastating, so it's not surprising that we're seeing a lot of research work in that area. This group has found an association with CD44 as a biomarker for potential recurrence, and a way to measure it with a simple oral rinse! https://lnkd.in/gu7ruQpG
