My Story by Jay Keckhafer, President of Dedicated Financial GBC. I joined Dedicated in May 2017, and my wife and two kids “joined” the Dedicated family as well, though they would not realize the full impact of what that would mean for years to come. From the first time my family packed meals for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) to the present day, our lives have been transformed from consumers/contributors of faith-driven mission work to owners/teachers of a giving culture. My son PJ was so moved by Dedicated's mission work that he gathered his neighborhood friends and set out to mow lawns for free. This was a way to give back to our local community and help those who didn’t have the time or means to do it themselves. PJ & Friends would ring someone’s doorbell and ask if they could mow their lawn at no charge “just to help you out.” The life lessons we all learned ranged from how young kids could overcome their fear of talking to strangers to how to raise the height of all the different mowers, which was a big issue initially. Growing and expanding from the early days of Dedicated has impacted my life and those around me daily. We have grown from supporting one or two non-profits to supporting 10+ regularly. I have a brother who was often hungry and, at times, homeless; he had mental health issues as well as drug and alcohol abuse issues that led to him being killed. That was an actual test of faith and still is. What drives me to be a positive giving force in the world is the thought and faith that, had someone helped my brother early on, like I help others now, he would still be here and contributing positively to others. Dedicated has given me the gift of being me, allowing me to give and impact the lives of those less fortunate. It becomes transformational when you don’t have to hide your heart at work and are supported in your giving.
