About us

ABOUT DEDOOSE: As researchers, we battled frustrations over traditional qualitative and mixed methods analysis software for years. It was clunky. It was expensive.  It was hard to use. For true mixed methods research, it wasn't even there. We needed a better, cheaper, more collaborative and user-friendly way to analyze our data. That's why we created Dedoose. Dedoose is a web based application that allows users to analyze qualitative and mixed methods research data from any internet enabled device. At less than $20 per month (on average), Dedoose was developed as a practical alternative to NVivo, Atlas.ti, Maxqda, and other qualitative data analysis software. Researchers and marketing teams use Dedoose to excerpt, code, visualize and drill into integrated qualitative and quantitative data—yielding new insights into key target markets and research populations. Dedoose was designed by researchers for researchers and our team remains firmly embedded within the professional academic research community. Beyond traditional qualitative data analysis, Dedoose includes fully integrated mixed methods features and efficiently supports collaboration like nothing before in a multi-platform and user experience optimized environment.

  • Join our friends at CAQDAS Networking Project tomorrow, March 21st for an overview of qualitative text analysis using digital tools including Dedoose.

Qualitative, Quantitative and mixed-methods social researcher and trainer. Senior Associate of Qualitative Data Analysis Services. Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey, UK.

LAST CHANCE to join us for our workshop on tools for qualitative text analysis, happening this FRIDAY 21st March. Grab the last few spots. https://buff.ly/bTG1VAq We begin with an overview of traditions in text analysis, spanning the methodological spectrum. We then introduce the range of digital tools that have been designed to facilitate these approaches – focusing on the genre of tools collectively referred to as Computer Assisted Qualitative Data AnalysiS (CAQDAS) packages but also discussing tools derived from other contexts. To bring qualitative text analysis methods to life we then focus on strategies and tactics for implementing an analysis, focusing on common analytic activities and how they can be accomplished using software tools. This involves preparing texts for analysis, importing and organising texts, exploring content and building dictionaries, coding texts using both inductive and deductive approaches, managing interpretations through analytic note-taking, summarizing and mapping, interrogating patterns and relationships and visualising and reporting. The workshop showcases a selection of CAQDAS-packages including ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, DiscoverText, MAXQDA, NVivo and QDA Miner. #QualitativeResearch #QualitativeAnalysis #TextAnalysis #CAQDAS #DigitalTools

  • "How do I find out (for free) about the changes in Dedoose 10?" Join scholars from the Institute for Mixed Methods Research as they demonstrate how to use the Auto-Code Wizard and Text Analytics features in Dedoose 10 on April 1st. They will provide commentary on various settings and how those might align well within various stages of your project and/or method. Reserve your free seat: dedoose.info/apr1

  • #DEDOOSE10: The Word Frequency chart presents the 40 most frequently occurring words based on multi-step pooled calculation. The most frequently occurring words are listed on the left and the bar (or pie slice) represents the number of instances that word appears within your text-based dataset. The right side of the chart contains the individual words and allows you to deselect words that you want to exclude from the chart. SELECTING A WORD ON THE WORD CHART: You can select a bar/pie slice to view current excerpts in your dataset that contain that keyword. Note that this does not represent the total number of instances the word is in your dataset, but rather a shortcut to existing data that you have excerpted in your project that contains that word. The “Matching Media” tab displays the total number of text-based documents where that word appears in the top 40 frequency list, regardless of any excerpting that has been completed. TIP: You can select on one of these excerpts to open the excerpt-viewer and continue coding. Upgrade to the new version at: dedoose.info/signup

  • #DEDOOSE10: The Auto-Code Wizard allows you to instruct Dedoose to create and code excerpts around key words or phrases of your choice. Auto-Coding can be a powerful tool to help you explore your data and progress your work, particularly for those with large datasets. Visit the Learning Center to review in-depth guides and a tutorial video for best practices before using the tool: dedoose.info/wizard

  • Are you counting down to #AERA25 in Denver this April? The theme of the annual meeting encourages researchers to consider how we can work across disciplinary, epistemological, and methodological orientations to form deeper connections while addressing barriers. Plan to come speak with our team at Booth 613 from April 24-26th. We'd love to hear your feedback about Version 10, which debuts this week on March 13th. Tell us how you're feeling about the introduction of new features, such as auto-coding and auto-summarization. You'll also notice an improved codebook workspace experience. We hope to see you there!
