The answer to Clue #9 is... Ghostbusters. 1984 - Three parapsychologists forced out of their university funding set up shop as a unique ghost removal service in New York City, attracting frightened yet skeptical customers. Here's why we chose it: “I tried to think of the most harmless thing I could…” And then came a towering marshmallow wrecking ball. It’s a good reminder that size and density are two different things—and both can cause damage on their own. With Ghostbusters, the lesson is: “I ain’t afraid of no ghost,” but staying fearless doesn’t mean ignoring what’s out there. You don’t have to be scared of every possible threat, but you do need to stay aware and focus on what you can control. While threats are usually external, your response and resilience are internal and very much within your power. So suit up, keep your proton pack ready, and stay vigilant. *Be sure to follow Deepwatch and return tomorrow morning for our final clue! #CyberAwarenessMonth #Halloween #DeepwatchCipher

The answer to Clue #8 is... IT 1990 - In 1960, seven pre-teen outcasts fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown. Here's why we chose IT: In any horror list, IT is a must-mention. We can debate which Pennywise is scarier another time, but I think we can all agree that “We All Float Down Here” wasn’t on anyone’s but Stephen King’s bingo card for being an impactful and scary line. Let’s think of clowns and PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) in the same way for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. They’re interesting distractions that sneak in unexpectedly and grab your attention—sometimes harmless, sometimes terrifying, and sometimes capable of causing serious damage. Whether they amuse, frighten, or wreck your systems, it’s best to avoid both. *Follow Deepwatch for more and we'll see you next week for our last two clues! #DeepwatchCipher #CyberAwarenessMonth

The answer to Clue #7 is... The Exorcist. 1973 - When a mysterious entity possesses a young girl, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. Here's why we chose it: This is a horror movie that left a mark on the actors and has haunted audiences ever since. It’s a stretch, but you could think of possession as a form of unwanted remote access—taking control of someone (or something) against their will. In cybersecurity, this mirrors how attackers exploit zero-day vulnerabilities, stolen credentials, or MFA bombing to gain unauthorized access. It’s a top exploit vector that should always be on our radar—not just for active credentials but also for spotting patterns and eliminating old accounts or unused permissions. So, keep your head on a swivel—just maybe limit the rotation to 170 degrees when watching your identities and credentials. *Follow Deepwatch for more and we'll see you tomorrow for the next clue! #DeepwatchCipher #CyberAwarenessMonth

The answer to Clue #6 is... A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984 - Teenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life. Here's why we chose it: Nightmare on Elm Street is a horror classic that dives into psychological fear. Jason? He’s a physical threat you can try to outrun. But Freddy? He’s a nightmare that haunts you when you’re most vulnerable. From a cyber awareness standpoint, think of Freddy’s boiler room as the dark web—hidden, dangerous, and full of the worst parts of humanity. Then there’s the Deep Dark Web, even more elusive and treacherous. Remember, there are three layers: Surface, Dark, and Deep Dark Web. Be cautious and stay clear of these hidden spaces, where curiosity can lead to real-world risks. Stay aware, and don’t get caught off guard. *Be sure to Follow Deepwatch and we'll see you tomorrow morning for our seventh clue! #DeepwatchCipher #CyberAwarenessMonth
