Countering Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction Course to Thailand In an ongoing effort to build partner capacity for multiple Thai law enforcement agencies, the #DTRA Building Partner Capacity Department partnered with experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security to deliver a course on Countering Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction at the Counter Terrorist Operations Center (CTOC) in Bangkok, Thailand. This event strengthened DTRA and U.S. ties with our Thai partners and helped lay a foundation to build Thailand’s capacity to counter terrorism and the use of WMD in Thailand. #DeterPreventPrevail

  • Strengthening Border Security #DTRA, @usembassymoldova, & the Government of Moldova held a quarterly review to celebrate their significant progress on the Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) Network project that will provide secure communications to enhance Moldova’s border security. Notable accomplishments include initiating the contract with relevant stakeholders and implementers; conducting a systems requirement review to outline technical and functional requirements; completing a technical survey to ensure each site was suitable for development; and facilitating a design review to ensure the designs met the necessary requirements. Once completed, the TETRA project will provide a secure communications network that will cover the entire country, increasing the ability of the Government of Moldova to manage and respond to WMD, border security, and emergency incidents. #DTRA, @usembassymoldova, and Moldova continue to build their strong relationship as they work together on non-proliferation efforts in the region. #strongandstrategic Read More by visiting https://bit.ly/46gXA6M

  • DTRA Security Donor Coordination Meeting 2024 in Sydney, Australia While participating in the Global Health Security Conference, members of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Biological Threat Reduction Program co-hosted a Health Security Donor Coordination Meeting with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Sydney, Australia June 19. Since 2019, this meeting series has enabled donors to discuss priorities over the next five years, deconflict areas of investment, and identify potential collaborative partners to ensure increased efficiency for improved health security outcomes throughout Southeast Asia and the Pacific. With over 30 representatives from the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Thailand, attendees discussed challenges and opportunities surrounding health security in the region, as well as goals and priorities to enhance partner nation capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks caused by high threat pathogens.

  • DTRA’s Director Rebecca Hersman recently visited the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) for discussions in London, England on July 17. Ms. Hersman leads more than 2,200 military and civilian experts operating in over 50 countries, to provide the United States Department of Defense, the U.S. Government, and international partners with leading-edge capabilities to counter and deter adversary use of WMDs and emerging threats. The fast-evolving threat environment raises new challenges for deterring strategic attacks, preventing WMD proliferation, increasing resilience and dealing with WMD-armed adversaries in crisis and conflict. Previous approaches to risk reduction, arms control and verification may no longer be applicable, but the need to stabilize deterrence relationships and prevent escalation to the level of WMD use remains vitally important. The roundtable served as an opportunity to learn about DTRA’s adaptation to the new strategic circumstances and its current priorities, as the dialogue compared perspectives on the challenges facing the U.S. and its allies. #globalpartners

#DTRA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, National Security Sciences at ORNL, and Romania work together to strengthen the security of critical nuclear facilities! DTRA, ORNL, National Security Sciences at ORNL, and Romania recently completed a five-day workshop examining, simulating, and testing security systems designed to safeguard nuclear and radiological facilities and materials. Through Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s instruction and expertise, the workshop enabled Romanian security stakeholders to create a “design basis threat,” a comprehensive analysis that evaluates the design of nuclear facility security systems against known threats. These designs are instrumental in building secure facilities that can prevent and deter insider and external threats, critical to Romania’s ability to safeguard its nuclear and radiological materials. DTRA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, National Security Sciences at ORNL, and Romania continue to build their strong relationship as they work together on non-proliferation efforts impacting the region and the international community. #globalpartners #stronandstrategic U.S. European Command
