Stay safe on the road this fall: DEKRA´s expert tips with Bernd Mayländer ☔🍃🦌 Especially in the fall, drivers often find themselves in stressful situations at the wheel: Aquaplaning, crosswinds, wild animals crossing and more. Together with Bernd Mayländer, DEKRA gives tips to be well-prepared and to react correctly on the road. 1. Driving Basics: The basic rules are crucial, especially in fall. Drive with foresight, maintain a proper sitting position (relatively upright) with the correct steering wheel position (9 and 3 o'clock) and avoid distractions (e.g. on-board infotainment, cell phone). 2. Aquaplaning: The most important thing to do when you see puddles or full ruts, is to take your foot off the gas. The condition of the tires and, above all, the tread depth also play a key role when it comes to aquaplaning: The better the tire tread, the easier the wheels remain steerable in the wet and can also transmit braking forces better. 3. Evasive maneuver: Appropriate steering is crucial when it comes to avoiding a sudden obstacle such as a wild animal on the road. However, braking is just as important! The aim must always be to avoid a collision. However, if this is not possible, speed plays a decisive role in the consequences. 4. Crosswinds: Wind is always a factor on the roads. Sudden crosswinds are particularly dangerous because you cannot see them and they affect the driving stability immediately.
