Formerly the Delaware Museum of Natural History, we're open again after an $11.8 million renovation.
About us
The Delaware Museum of Natural History is now the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science. We have embarked on the most ambitious and significant capital campaign since our doors opened to the public in 1972. Our goal is a complete reinvention—a metamorphosis—to meet the community need for a regional leader in formal and informal science education. Reimagining our main galleries, public spaces, and outdoor campus is at the heart of this metamorphosis. By switching from static dioramas to interactive, ecosystem-based engagements, the new Delaware Museum of Nature and Science will inspire people to discover, examine, and uncover the wonders of science in the natural world. The new Museum will be the go-to place to learn about our world, how we are connected, and how we can make a difference. Upstairs, researchers maintain expansive collections of mollusks and birds, including the second-largest collection of birds’ eggs in North America. Scientists from around the world visit to study specimens and request loans to assist them further in their research. As a non-profit institution, DelMNS relies on the generosity of members, donors, or corporate sponsors to sustain high-quality exhibits and educational programs for the community.

The Summer Science Corps program provides real-world experience in education, interpretation, scientific collections, and more for local teenagers. This talented group of volunteers leads hands-on activities throughout the summer. In their own words, they aim to "gain valuable communication skills, add leadership experience, and inspire a love for nature and science." All of our volunteers grew up coming to the museum and are excited to share their experiences with others. 🧬🌳🦖

DuPont STEMists Kevin Endres, Elsa Koninckx, and Geoffrey Odlum visited the museum yesterday! This month's Meet a DuPont STEMist topic was chromatography and understanding how to separate components of a mixture. Middle schoolers are an often-overlooked demographic but kids need to know what STEAM career opportunities Delaware offers — and earlier is better. Organizations and businesses came to the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science to show the young teens what jobs are out there. https://lnkd.in/gv_-FVWM #STEAM #CareerPossibilities #MiddleSchool #Delaware

Garden Gate Garden Club recently unveiled a bench on our evolution trail dedicated to Rosemary Sausen. As an original founder of the club, Rosemary has left a huge impact on the group and local community with a variety of projects over the years. Representative Krista Griffith honored Garden Gate with a tribute to commend their devotion and contributions to the community. Garden Gate has made a number of additions to the beautification of the outdoor space at the museum, and this bench will be a reminder of the club's mission to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, aid in the protection of plants and wildlife, and encourage civic beauty. Joined by Rosemary's family, we are delighted to have this new addition to the museum!
