How do engineers and technologists communicate the detail and integrity of the engineering process? An age old difficulty between the technical and the commercial communities on communication and vocabulary. MPa, mm, Newtons and squre inches are as baffling as SEO, bounce rate, SEM and CPM to either side of the conversation. Whether it is mechanical, electronic or software, the engineering depth is important to maintain and to communicate its value. Do detailed technical reports get read or just stored? Verbal descriptions on a personal level, but how to document them? Are infographics the means to engage and offer the key information? Having used many forms, over many years in various forums, I feel that there is not one appraoch. A variety of tools and strategies to achieve this are needed, tailoring the approach to the audience and the specific information that needs to be conveyed.
