On World Alzheimer’s Day, Governor Newsom signed SB 639 into law and expanded continuing education requirements for geriatric and dementia care. The new law now applies to general internists, family physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who work in practices where over 25% of patients are 65 and older. These healthcare providers must complete 20% of their mandated continuing education in topics related to geriatric medicine, dementia care, or the special needs of older patients. Good news! Dementia Care Aware offers courses with FREE CE/CME that will count for these requirements in the new mandate. Earn up to 4.5 CE/CME credits including AMA PRA/AANC/AAPA and ASWB —FREE— available now at https://lnkd.in/gYjEVB8R to sign up for our signature course, Cognitive Health Assessment (CHA): The Basics, or our other CE offerings. Opportunities to earn up to 10 credits with our webinars and more. #dementia #SB639 #geriatrics #CaliforniaBill #worldalzheimersday

Join us in celebrating National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month! Did you know that in 2019, 20% of Californians living with Alzheimer’s disease identify as Latinx? And did you know that Alzheimer’s disease will more than triple in this population by 2040? By learning how to screen for #dementia, you can be proactive. This is particularly important for those from historically underserved communities with lower rates of early diagnosis, such as our Latinx older adults. Visit our website for resources and explore our webinar series on disparities, which highlights the impact of dementia in the #Latinx community. https://lnkd.in/gFybeqRr Dementia Care Aware #hispanicandlatixhertitagemonth #california

Ageism harms older people. Ageism is stereotyping and discriminating against older people because of their age. It leads to discounting their value to society and excluding older people. #Ageism harms everyone of all ages. It makes us think less positively about aging overall. You can find more information about how to combat ageism in your community here: https://lnkd.in/gg4qTnmJ For more information about Dementia Care Aware, visit our website www.DementiaCareAware.org.
