🔎 New (short!) report: A vision for data in the built environment Sustainability reporting in the built environment is becoming more complex, fragmented, and costly—yet access to reliable, standardised data remains a challenge. BPIE, in collaboration with UCL, the Building Passport Alignment Project, the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), and Demo-BLog, convened a cross-sector workshop to define a shared vision for data in the built environment for policymakers, investors, the real estate industry and digital technologies. Our new short report, "A vision for data in the built environment: transforming sustainability reporting", presents the key outcomes of this workshop and outlines a path towards: ✅ Aligned and standardised data for greater transparency ✅ Interoperable and trustworthy reporting to reduce inefficiencies ✅ A federated data ecosystem to support EU policy alignment ✅ Actionable recommendations for policymakers, investors, and industry 🔹 Key conclusions & recommendations: 📌 The EU should lead the development of a common data dictionary, harmonising sustainability reporting across regulations to reduce complexity and costs. 📌 A federated data model should be implemented, allowing data to remain with those who generate it while ensuring secure, on-demand access for stakeholders. 📌 Regulatory bodies must align reporting requirements across different policies to streamline data collection and enhance decision-making. 📌 Industry actors must prepare for growing data demands by investing in digital tools and engaging with sustainability reporting frameworks now. Data collection is the cornerstone of any #DigitalBuildingLogbook (DBL)🔣 Our partners from TU Delft Urban Energy Institute invited the #DemoBLog pilots to the so-called DreamHûs at The Green Village 🏘️ to collect real data to test their new developments (aka "functionalities"). Both CAPSA (ChillServices) and Cirdax building logbooks collected onsite real measurements and scans of the #DreamHus, which will help them improve their new functionalities. #DigitalBuildingLogbooks (DBLs) are online repositories of building data with a huge potential to enable a rapid and cost-effective decarbonisation of buildings. However, is the EU policy framework fit to support a broad uptake of DBLs in Member States, and to fully leverage their benefits?
