🤝 A productive roundtable discussion led by Denver Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Regional Director Lily Griego and Councilmember Stacie Gilmore revealed the urgency to enhance health care access in Montbello. Key community leaders and professionals joined forces, identifying the unique needs of children, seniors, and people with different abilities and potential strategies to combat limited resources. 💡 Chief Government and Community Affairs Officer Steve Federico, MD, moderated the roundtable discussion, which included Denver Health doctors Sonja OLeary, MD from Denver Health Pediatrics, Lara Penny, MD from our Montbello Family Health Center, Betsy Chanth, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Director for Mental Health at the Struggle of Love Foundation, Pam Jiner, National Field Director of Walkability at GirlTrek, and Ann White, Executive Director of Montbello 2020. 💙 The road to a stronger Montbello begins with better health care access, mental health support and substance use treatment. 👏 Congratulations Denver on another great year walking together at the Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk! What a team we had! Bursting with energy, our Denver Health crew was the largest team at the event, boasting 144 smiling faces! Together, we also raised nearly $1,600 for crucial breast cancer research. Our leaders took the stage to emphasize the role of regular mammograms and remind everyone that every step taken is a step closer to a cure. We are not only thankful for the overwhelming staff and community involvement in the walk, but also find it remarkably humbling to have had some of our patients, including breast cancer survivor Amy Locke, walk alongside us. 👏 Amid cheers and applause, we had the joy of celebrating Former Mayor Federico F. Peña at Denver Health! We unveiled a portrait of this tremendous public servant at our health center that happily bears his name, the Federico F. Peña Family Health Center. Our CEO Donna Lynne praised Mayor Peña for his enduring dedication to uplifting those underserved in our community. In Donna's words: “It's his inspiring drive to lift others, especially the often marginalized, that aligns perfectly with what we do here at Denver Health.” Peña was gracious and reminded everyone how vital Denver Health's work is, touching on the essential health services available at the center. Emphasizing his point, Peña stated, “I can’t imagine how many lives have been saved just because of this one center...Let’s continue to support this extraordinary institution.” The tenacious duo, Peña and his wife Cindy, were instrumental in the creation of this center. In acknowledgment of their tireless efforts, Donna added, "Federico and Cindy were the driving forces behind this very building. This center is an incredible pillar of the community, and a symbol of what it means to come from the community and work with the community.” 💙 Ever since the Federico F. Peña Family Health Center opened up its doors in 2016, it has been an integral part of our Denver Health family and has seen over 111,000 patients! The beautiful portrait of Peña was painted by local talent Sierra Montoya Barela and now greets everyone near the entrance of the health center.
