About us
United States manufacturing and innovation are essential to American economic and national security. The Department of Defense (DoD) Manufacturing Technology enterprise utilizes advanced manufacturing to secure a more lethal force, strengthen alliances and new partnerships, and reform the Department for greater performance and affordability. The mission of the program is to reduce the acquisition and supportability costs of defense weapon systems and reduce manufacturing and repair cycle times across the life cycles of such systems. DoD ManTech is comprised of the Military Service and DoD Agency or Component ManTech investment programs operated out of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Army, Navy, Air Force, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), and Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Though there is no central DoD ManTech Director, the OSD ManTech Office is responsible for administering the DoD ManTech Program by providing central guidance and direction to the Component ManTech Programs. Along with providing oversight to DoD ManTech, the OSD ManTech Office also manages two investment portfolios: the Manufacturing Science & Technology Program (OSD MSTP) and DoD Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (DoD MIIs). OSD MSTP aids in achieving reduced acquisition and total ownership costs by developing, maturing, and transitioning key manufacturing technologies. Investments are focused on those that have the most benefit to the Warfighter and include quick-hitting, rapid response projects to address immediate manufacturing needs. The DoD MIIs are public-private partnerships that help increase economic and national security by supporting research & development, building industrial ecosystems, and enabling education and workforce development. DoD MIIs are members of the Manufacturing USA network. Administered by the OSD ManTech Office, this page provides the latest descriptions, news, and events related to the DoD ManTech enterprise.

AFFOA and MIT Beaver Works Cre(AT)e Partner to Assist High School Students Creating Advanced Wearable Prototypes Recently, Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA) collaborated with the MIT Beaver Works Summer Institute Cre(AT)e challenge. The challenge introduced high school students to engineering, research, and design opportunities. Teams from across the country formed virtual and in-person groups to design assistive technology prototypes in partnership with a co-designer with a disability. Over 6 months, the students incorporated elements from AFFOA’s SeamLS advanced fabrics curriculum and received guidance from AFFOA’s technical team. Two teams mentored by AFFOA were finalists for their innovative e-textile prototypes. The OSD ManTech Manufacturing Education and Workforce Development program bridges technology innovators with educators to align emerging technologies and talent development, creating scalable workforce solutions that enhance U.S. manufacturing capabilities. To achieve its mission, OSD ManTech M-EWD leverages the Manufacturing Innovation Institutes. Each institute, in its role as an innovator developing and disseminating new cutting-edge technologies, plays a unique and critical role in connecting and aligning industry, education, and regional stakeholders. Thank you to our partners at Michigan Technological University for hosting the Manufacturing of Tomorrow bootcamp with us at LIFT! Together we are developing the #advancedmanufacturing workforce of tomorrow and Driving American Advanced Manufacturing Into the Future!
Last week we proudly partnered with LIFT to host a four day, 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸 bootcamp for high school students. Thanks to our generous sponsor, the program was entirely free. Through hands-on project work and activities, participants learned about welding, 3D printing, robotics, and other key advanced manufacturing skills. We also toured facilities including AAM - American Axle & Manufacturing and Lincoln Park Boring Co. to see careers in action. Amidst so much talk of the #skillsgap in manufacturing, it's experiences like these that break down barriers about the industry. In their program survey, 100% of the participants stated that their knowledge of manufacturing career pathways had increased. Workforce development starts with exposure!
