Our school nurses work on behalf of staff, students, and families every school day, forming connections, evaluating health conditions, assessing needs, and so much more. Because of their presence more students with health conditions have access to education in a school building with their peers. Thank you to our school nurses for the important work they do and the many lives they touch. #NationalSchoolNurseDay

Every Teacher Appreciation Week we think back on our favorite teachers who helped shape us into the people we are today. Des Moines Public Schools employs 2,656 teachers and 660 teacher associates in 60+ buildings and programs. This week we are hearing so many stories of schools and families together celebrating educators with food, activities, and plenty of love. Thank you to our teachers for the amazing difference you make in young lives all year long!

Nearly 5,000 people work to provide and support a quality education to more than 30,000 students in Des Moines. From school administrators and educators to bus drivers and technology professionals to food and nutrition providers to financial experts, these dedicated DMPS employees are committed to providing the best possible experience for students and families. Each month the Become Here Spotlight will shine on an administrator, an educator and a staff member to share a little more about the many people working to teach and support the children and students of our community, and in the words of those who nominated them for the recognition. This month, join us in congratulating Success Case Manager and coach Treavor Hixon at Harding Middle School and Dr. Ryan Williamson, associate principal at North High School.
