Italian designer Piero Lissoni describes his approach to design as “clean and silent,” allowing for a hint of “noise.” His luminous Quantum Bookshelf for Glas Italia is a case in point: Just by looking at it, you can almost hear the gentle *clink* of arranging decorative objects on its ultra-sleek, tempered glass surfaces. Italian designer Tobia Scarpa doesn’t subscribe to rules of design. If anything, he breaks them. His striking 925 Lounge Chair – designed in collaboration with his wife Afra – pushes the boundaries of technique and proportion with a robust solid wood frame and slender, curved leather seat and back featuring a distinctive slotted cutout. The dining room is hemmed in by the excavated bedrock – a cool contrast to the warmth of the 1977 Daumiller Chair in solid pine, new at DWR from GUBI. Take a peek inside the stunning Reyes House, designed by artist Pedro Reyes and his wife, fashion designer Carla Fernández. In volcanic rock and concrete, this dynamic house nods to the Brutalist architecture of Mexico City, incorporating the Reyes’ family home, Pedro’s and Carla’s studios, and their lending library with thousands of books. “People think of concrete as cold, but the handmade process creates a sense of warmth,” says Pedro.
