Yesterday, we hosted the latest in our CRE Consulting Services meetings, in which Dallas-area nonprofits and community organizations can have their real estate questions answered by TREC members. We are proud to offer this service and appreciate the support from the The Real Estate Council (TREC) membership to serve the community in this way. Thank you to CRE Consulting Services Chair Denise Fansler (JLL) and TC Alexander (Bank of Texas), Will Barry (Austin Commercial), Gabriela Blake (Design Balance), Scott Cross, LEED AP (Austin Commercial), Andrew Henry (Austin Commerical), Thalia McAdory (Jacobs Engineering Group), and Emily Ronck, RID (Corgan) for generously volunteering their time and expertise. #TRECCommunityInvestors #communityinvestment #Dallas #DFW #dallasrealestate #dfwrealestate #realestateeducation #dallasnonprofits

Wood Partners continues to expand in Texas with Altera Rayzor Ranch, a 192-unit multifamily community in Denton, a suburb outside of Dallas. The project broke ground this week and is expected to deliver to the community in the third quarter of 2025. The apartment is part of the Wood Partners’ Altera brand, a new attainable housing initiative offering upscale living at cost-effective rates. Residents can benefit from a resort-style pool, a modern fitness facility, outdoor socializing spaces with fire pits and gas grills, programmed green space and multiple coworking and meeting spaces. “Denton has experienced explosive growth in the past few years which will only continue to increase due to its educated workforce, lower cost of living and access to plenty of open spaces,” said Ryan Miller managing director at Wood Partners. “Altera Rayzor Ranch’s premier location provides a community feel with best-in-class shopping and dining opportunities just footsteps away from your door. We are devoted to assisting the city’s positive growth by developing new, attainable multifamily apartments designed with the community needs in mind.” Read More: https://lnkd.in/eE7mE6H7

Our Associate Principal Andrew Fastle, RA, LEED AP spent this past weekend in New Orleans, LA meeting with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Lots of great conversations, and great food, were had! This is his second year serving on the Experience Committee, which oversees the development, delivery and assessment of the Architectural Experience Program (AXP). Design Balance leadership continues to be involved in shaping the profession at a national level, another great example of how we encourage our team to #FindTheirBalance outside of the project/office environment.

Meet Sydney, the Design Balance mascot! She came to DBI all the way from Australia where she was born and raised. After studying Burrow Construction Sciences at the University of Melbourne, she decided to pursue her love of the built environment to above the ground and head over to America, where DBI has given her ample opportunity to experience the active world of human architecture. Read below for more about Sydney, and keep an eye out for her at future site visits and Design Balance events! Sydney the (Womble?) Wombat, in her own words: 1.      I’m a hugger. There’s a reason wombats looks so cuddly! 2.      I’m a vegetarian, but I just may change that for the BBQ everybody here in Texas is crazy about. 3.      My mom had a cameo role in the movie The Rescuers Down Under, and people say we look just alike. Does that make me famous? 4.      I’m very shy by nature, but am trying to get better at networking for professional reasons, as long as I can avoid those scary Dingoes! (I heard they eat babies) 5.      Though I can go weeks without drinking, I don’t like to let many happy hours pass without a can of Fosters. 6.      Even though wombats are obviously marsupials, my semi-degrading nickname in college was “Mies van der Rodent”. 7.      My favorite sport is Rugby, but I don’t have the physique for it. 8.      A group of wombats is called a “Wisdom”, but you may want to wait until I’m a little more experienced before coming to me for architectural advice. 9.      My favorite spot in Dallas is the downtown tunnel system, because it reminds me of my home. 10.  Wombat excrement is cube-shaped. I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t a big part of why I love to build things and got into architecture.

The apartment community is situated within the master-planned 1,300-acre development, Westover Hills, home to more than 30,000 employees and located near numerous retail and entertainment centers. “We were drawn to the Texas Hill Country’s rich history, which will be celebrated throughout the community with design elements such as shiplap, board-and-batten siding and natural earth tone colors,” said Bart Barrett, Managing Director at Wood Partners. “With its prime location, unique features and amenities, Alta Westover Hills is an excellent addition to our San Antonio portfolio.” Since 2017, Wood Partners has completed or is in the process of completing, 12 communities throughout South/Central Texas, totaling 3,460 units. Our Principal John Womble, AIA NCARB in-action, giving back to our community by volunteering as the Vice-Chairman with the City of Rockwall Planning & Zoning Commission! John's passion for community development make him an invaluable asset to the committee, where he's served in his current role for 6 years. He had also previously served a couple of years as Chairman of the Architectural Review Board. Our Associate Principal Tyler Cini, AIA NCARB spent a day in May serving as a juror for the 2024 Golden Trowel Awards, hosted by the United Masonry Contractors Association and officially awarded mid-June. It was an educational experience for him to collaborate with Mason Contractors from the region and fellow Architects alike, to recognize the impressive design and craftsmanship on display in recent years in North Texas. The Texas Masonry Council has a lot to be proud of! Another great example of how we at Design Balance encourage our team to #FindTheirBalance outside of the project/office environment.
