What is Design Leadership, and Why Should We Learn About It? 🤔 👉🏼 Design leadership is important for designers at every level because it's about how you advocate and own the designer responsibilities. In other words, it's about: 🌍 Broadening your perspective 🙌 Advocating for others or users 🙋🏽♀️ Influencing decisions 👯♀️ Fostering collaboration 🪴 Embracing a growth mindset 🔐 Problem-solving 💪🏻 Practicing empathy and mentorship Leadership is far more complex than we often think, and it’s crucial to demystify it. By understanding your leadership strengths and areas for growth, you can grow as a leader—not just in design, but in all aspects of your life. 🔥 We’re excited to partner with Felix Desroches for our Design Leadership Workshop Series, which will run over the next 3 months. Felix, with years of experience and a forthcoming book on design leadership, will lead engaging, hands-on workshops to help everyone understand and personalize their leadership strategies and growth plan. 📍The first session is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, from 6–7 PM EST/3-4 PM PT. 📌 At Designed Minds, we believe in learning through doing. Our sessions are interactive and discussion-driven, so come ready to engage, share, and ask questions! ✅ Sign up today—don’t miss out on this opportunity to discover and develop your leadership strengths! In the August community meeting at Designed Minds, our members discussed the challenges, symptoms, and experiences of how trust affects the workplace and their jobs as designers. 🗝 Key Takeaways: > Trust-building leaders give trust but also set clear expectations and accountability to enable their team to continue earning their trust. > You need to balance all leadership qualities. Leaning too far in one particular direction could hurt trust. > "Trust = Practical + Emotional." > Workplace trust starts at an individual level and from self-trust. (=confidence) > "I believe vulnerability, responsibility, and good communication are important to a designer." > "I built my team's trust after building rapport and doing the extra work to make the lives of others in my team easier." > Trusted people are empathetic, genuine, transparent, courageous, and driving results. 🥑  Food For Thought: > "With recent layoffs, trust is at a low. I wonder how difficult it would be to re-build it in this corporate landscape." > "Get feedback from others on how they see you." > "How can I communicate feedback tactically and thoughtfully?" -------- At Designed Minds, we discuss topics from our Career Ownership Roadmap each month in a supportive and collaborative environment, where every member shares their experiences, ideas, and questions and learns from each other. Join a supportive community of Designed Minds, where you take ownership of your career growth, learn from other designers, and build meaningful relationships. Being a designer is so much more than "doing" design. Designers work with others who empower the designers' ideas and make changes in the world. To be an effective designer, we must influence others through our work. During our July meeting's discussion on this topic, the DM members shared their experiences and perspectives on what "influencing without authority" means to them and their tips and tricks on how to be good at it. 🚀 Key Takeaways 🚀 👉 Designer activities = to bring clarity 👉 Practice breaking down a complex idea and communicating it so that a five-year-old can understand 👉 Lead with curiosity and withhold judgment  👉 Expressing empathy and gratitude can build trust 👉 Be the person who gets sh*t done 👉 Speak their language when presenting solutions ----- Join a supportive community of Designed Minds, where you take ownership of your career growth, learn from other designers, and build meaningful relationships. I resigned from my job at the Home Depot, and I'm headed to France with a one-way ticket. 1️⃣ This is my corporate break: my first planned and intentional corporate break since graduating from college. I've been fortunate to find a career in UX and work with amazing people on interesting projects, which grew and developed me into a better person. While my UX career in corporate America provided financial stability and loads of opportunities, I began to scrutinize the purpose and meaning of my work a few years ago. "I'm a designer and a problem-solver...but am I solving real problems? Do I care about the problems I'm solving?" 2️⃣ This is my sabbatical; I hope this experience brings inspiration and creativity to guide my next few years. I used to write a lot. I had too many thoughts and ideas to keep just inside my head. My journal used to be full of my raw thoughts, reflections, philosophies, and imaginations. As I got more invested in my career, I lost all those "unpractical" thoughts and, instead, filled myself with work, career, and projects. "I miss that. The unpractical thoughts that shaped and guided my younger self. What do I have in me that I want to express, resolve, or detangle?" 3️⃣ This is my adventure; what and how can this experience change me as a person and as a designer? I don't have clear goals as I go into this adventure. Could I even imagine the significance of this experience when I look back on it 50 years from now? I hope the unfamiliar place, lifestyle, and objectives will help me explore myself. I'm taking the chance and challenging myself to make decisions and live through them without knowing the answers. "Who will I have become next year?"

Hi, Linked In Followers! 👋 We are very excited to announce that the Designed Minds membership is now free! With that, we are changing how we run this community and what we offer, and we want to share our thought process with you. — We all have access to many other designer communities and great information and content for designers. However, we wanted to create a community focused on interactions, relationships, and learning from each other rather than just consuming content or engaging in superficial networking. We previously thought that charging a membership fee similar to a “gym membership” would encourage our members to participate regularly, but this approach hasn’t worked as we hoped. Based on the feedback from our members, we have decided to remove the membership fee. Since April, the organizing team has gathered our members' opinions on the community offerings and member expectations. With the information we’ve collected, we are planning some exciting changes. If you are not a member yet, apply to join our exclusive community! https://lnkd.in/gh9iMNDq The details will be shared at the upcoming Town Hall meeting (member-only event) on 6/27. — Designed Minds remains committed to nurturing a community based on our core values:  👉 creating a safe space to practice and fail 👉 building a supportive and inspiring community 👉 promoting sustainable and continuous growth. We will introduce new solutions that align with our problem statement and help you gain control and ownership of your careers. Thank you for being a vital part of Designed Minds. Your contributions continue to inspire and drive us. 🌟 💕 Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!
