Did you know? Designs for Dignity engages interior design professionals to volunteer their time on our nonprofit renovation & new construction projects. We aim to pair designers with the right project based on skill set, location, and time availability. Designers have the opportunity to follow our projects from initial programming through construction completion, collaborate with other industry professionals, and help a non-profit organization realize a functional & dignified space. Work with us to become part of the greater impact through design.

Trauma-informed design seeks to create restorative, community-oriented spaces that honor an individual’s dignity. SCB Associate Gail Wozniak recently spoke to NBCU Academy about her work with Designs For Dignity, an organization that provides pro bono design services and materials to nonprofit spaces for marginalized communities.   Utilizing trauma-informed and inclusive design principles, Gail, who is also an Associate Board Member for Designs for Dignity, was the lead volunteer interior designer for The Harbour, a shelter for unhoused youth and young mothers. “It’s meaningful knowing that the work I’m doing means a lot to somebody,” says Gail. Learn more about how Designs for Dignity and their volunteers are helping to create safe and welcoming spaces for Chicago-area organizations and the people they serve.
