[Spoiler Alert: if you want to know what a large battery storage facility looks like, open the linked NYT article]
The New York Times article is a timely explanation of the proliferation of utility-scale battery storage installations in the U.S. Battery energy storage has developed in the past few years from a means of delivering ancillary services (stop-gap power during service lags and interruptions) to a critical tool in stabilizing grid capacity accompanying increased reliance on renewable energy sources. Indeed, states like California are increasing their mandate for battery storage to support their goals for low or zero-carbon energy growth. As with all emerging technology, reliable, rationally priced financing is required to enable its implementation. USQRisk and Ascend Analytics have joined forces to make the financing of these installation more achievable by developing a revenue protection insurance product that offers developers and lenders increased revenue certainty. My colleagues and I are proud to meaningfully participate in the green energy transition effort.
