Please join us in welcoming Dr. Irma Hamilton as DCF’s new Director of Programs and Partnerships!
In this role, Dr. Hamilton will work alongside our school partners to support Detroit students by removing barriers and providing equity and access to pathways of opportunity for their educational success.
Irma, originally from Detroit, has a wealth of experience in education and administration. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science from Northern Michigan University, a Master's degree in Learning Disabilities and Reading from the University of Detroit, a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling, and a Doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Wayne State University.
Before joining the DCF team, Dr. Hamilton held several impactful positions in the field of education. Her roles have included teacher, department head, assistant principal, principal, Supervisor of Secondary Education and Director of Education for the Detroit Zoological Society. Additionally, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University and Concordia University. Her most recent position was Outreach Specialist for the Office of K-12 Outreach in the College of Education at Michigan State University.
Dr. Hamilton has received numerous awards, including but not limited to the Distinguished Service Award from the Detroit City Council for services as principal of Detroit Renaissance High School from 1993-2002, and Principal of the Year Award from the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. As principal of Renaissance High School, the school received the Michigan Blue Ribbon and was cited in Activity Magazine for “having higher ACT scores than any other big-city, predominately African American high school in the nation.” Dr. Hamilton is passionate about education and has been a keynote speaker and presenter at many conferences.
Dr. Hamilton enjoys family gatherings, reading, traveling, singing in her church choir, and also playing with her fur baby, Princess. Her strong faith in God keeps the smile on her face and the pep in her step!
