DHR Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Ryan S. Shine has joined the Level 1 Trauma Center as a fellowship-trained, board-certified Critical Care Surgeon. He will be part of a dedicated team that provides 24 hours a day, 365 days a year trauma care to incoming patients. A native of California, Dr. Shine earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He then moved to the Rio Grande Valley where he accepted a rigorous five-year general surgery internship and residency with DHR Health through the UTRGV School of Medicine. During his training with DHR Health, he distinguished himself by participating in several hospital committees and leadership roles, including serving as the chief academic resident. He then furthered his expertise by completing a trauma & surgical critical care fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Shine has co-authored several published articles and has delivered presentations at both national and international conferences. His research focus is on innovative surgical techniques, trauma care resuscitation, and the integration of advanced imaging technologies in critical care settings. Dr. Shine is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, American College of Surgeons’ South Texas Chapter, and the Panamerican Trauma Society. Meet Ernesto “Ernie” de la Rosa, a dedicated member of the DHR Health team for the past 10 years! Ernie plays a crucial role in the DHR Health Emergency Room, where, as a Charge and Trauma Nurse, he ensures top-notch patient care and maintains the smooth operation of the ER, handling any challenges that arise. Born and raised in Edinburg, Texas, Ernie earned his Associate Degree in Nursing from South Texas College and later completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Texas A&M University. Outside of work, Ernie is a proud father of three and loves spending quality time with his family. He and his daughter enjoy practicing archery together. DHR Health is pleased to announce the addition of orthopedic surgeon Zain Sayeed, M.D., M.H.A, to its team of talented physicians at the Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Sayeed is a fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon coming from Harvard Medical School – Massachusetts General Brigham. He is one of the only surgeons in the Rio Grande Valley with fellowship training specifically in the area of adult reconstruction. He will incorporate state-of-the-art techniques such as anterior hip replacement, robotic assisted surgery, tourniquet free total knee replacement, hip preservation, and patient specific instrumentation. A native of Illinois, Dr. Sayeed graduated from Chicago Medical School in 2017. After medical school, he pursued a residency in orthopedic surgery at Wayne State University at the Detroit Medical Center in Michigan, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Harvard Medical School. While at Harvard, he trained under foremost implant design leaders and revision surgeons in the field of joint replacement. Additionally, Dr. Sayeed helped further advance the field of joint replacement through evidenced based approaches including clinical and translational research. He has published over 60 articles, which include peer-reviewed journals and multiple book chapters, several of which were through the Harvard research program, currently the largest hospital-based research program in the world. His work has been presented at the international level. He continues to be academically productive in efforts to provide his patients with cutting edge joint replacement care in South Texas. DHR Health is pleased to announce Dr. Eduardo Martinez del Campo to its distinguished Neuroscience team. Dr. Martinez del Campo will serve as a neurosurgeon, subspecialized in the diagnosis and treatment of skull base and brain tumors. Additionally, he has expertise in managing medically and surgically disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems, including the brain, spinal cord, spinal column, and peripheral nerves. Born and raised in Mexico City and fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Martinez del Campo graduated top of his medical school class at Anahuac University School of Medicine with the support of a full scholarship for academic excellence. During his studies, he participated in a one-year internship that included a 6-month rotation at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami in Florida; focusing in neurological surgery. He then spent three months at the National Institute of Perinatology, Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes, and an additional three months at the National Institute of Pediatrics, both located in Mexico City. After earning his medical degree, he spent nearly 4 years at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, to further his education earning a post-doctoral fellowship in spine biomechanics and clinical research, where he conducted spine and vascular neurological surgery research. This was also supported by industry-based and academic excellence scholarships. Additionally, Dr. Martinez del Campo completed his residency in neurological surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he specialized in brain tumor and skull base surgery. He furthered honed his skills with a fellowship in brain tumor and skull base surgery at Swedish Health Services, Cherry Hill campus in Seattle, Washington. He is an active member of several prestigious medical organizations, and has made significant contributions to his field through extensive writing and presentations. His research has been cited over 600 times in academic journals. Meet Damaris Chapa. She has been at DHR Health for 11 years! As a dedicated pharmacy technician, Damaris plays an essential role in preparing IVs, compounds, and chemotherapy infusions, all while maintaining a meticulously sterile environment. When asked about her favorite part of the job, Damaris shared, “My coworkers are like family. I’m so blessed; I look forward to coming to work because of the supportive environment my coworkers and our directors foster.” Born and raised in Edinburg, Texas, Damaris is a proud wife of 13 years and mother to two children, ages 13 and 8. Outside of work, she loves spending time at the beach. Thanks to her seven-on, seven-off schedule, Damaris enjoys quality time with her family fishing, hiking, and hunting—treasured moments that bring them together.
