Simply listening, and providing support, can make a significant – and even lifesaving – difference in the life of a child, adolescent, or adult. Supportive families and caregivers, peers, schools, and community environments are all associated with improved mental health and well-being. samhsa.gov/suicide #SuicidePreventionMonth #workplacementalhealth #HRandSafetyProsUnite #digitalsafetysolutions

Safety professionals can take an active role in reducing workplace stressors that contribute to suicide risk. This includes reviewing job site practices that may exacerbate stress, such as unrealistic project deadlines, insufficient rest periods, or hazardous work environments. #HRandSafetyProsHelp #workplacementalhealth

The rate of death by suicide for construction workers is 5.5 times the rate of all other construction fatalities on the jobsite. The rate of suicide in construction is more than four times higher than the general population. (Source: BLS) With more than 8 million (and rising) workers in the industry, it is critical that we place as much focus on mental health in our workforce as much as we do the physical. HR and safety professionals are uniquely positioned to help workers seek help. Furthermore, HR and safety professionals should learn how to identify warning signs, promote mental health, and foster a supportive environment. By prioritizing mental well-being, establishing comprehensive support systems, and integrating mental health into workplace safety protocols, HR and safety professionals can make a significant difference. #SuicidePreventionWeek #HRandSafetyProsHelp #digitalsafetysolutions

Suicide is an urgent and growing public health crisis. More than 49,000 people in the United States died by suicide in 2022. That’s one death every 11 minutes. The urgency to address suicide has grown after the COVID-19 pandemic and has been exacerbated by the ongoing mental health and overdose crises. National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month – a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide. It’s also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope. During this month, human resources and safety professionals can learn more about what they can do in the workplace to help. Look for more information from my team every Tuesday and Thursday. #workplacementalhealth #HRandSafetyProsUnite #digitalsafety #BeThe1To
