Back in February 2024, I had the privilege of being a guest on the popular The Logistics Lounge podcast. During the interview, I was asked what the industry could do to fight systemic fraud, double brokering, identity and cargo theft, and illegal dispatch services. My immediate response was that the Department of Transportation should require a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) as a prerequisite for obtaining motor carrier operating authority. While that may seem like a pipe dream, I also suggested a more practical solution: “bring together all the key players in carrier identity and vetting to combine best practices and create a unified front against freight fraud.” The reality is that many platforms in this space are primarily focused on profit. Facial Recognition Verification: We require all current and potential carriers to complete Facial Recognition Verification. This step ensures that the identity of the carrier's owner or C-Suite is validated and verified. Our company and our customers are entitled to know with 100 percent certainty who we are working with. 2. FreightValidate ✅.com & MyCarrierPortal Identity & Compliance Verification: We check Secretary of State records, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) data, and other state and federal resources to ensure that motor carriers we work with comply with current regulations. 3. Email Address Requirements: We will no longer permit generic email addresses such as gmail.com, hotmail.com, aol.com, yahoo.com, etc., as contact email addresses. Only corporate email addresses will be accepted. We may waive this requirement on a case-by-case basis if we can verify through a third party that the individual is registered/owns the email address. 4. Current Contact Information: The contact name, phone number, and principal place of business must be current and listed within the Licensing & Insurance database with FMCSA (SAFER). If the data is not present in the FMCSA database, we will accept a completed MC-150 form as sufficient compliance and proof of filing with the FMCSA. Identity and compliance verification are crucial in safeguarding our community against fraud and ensuring that only legitimate industry stakeholders gain access. By incorporating these requirements, we can help prevent identity theft of our great carriers. We are committed to preventing potential fraudsters from negatively impacting our company or our customers.
