When an alert says "blocked," it’s easy to move on. But our SOC team knew there was more to the story. What started as a suspicious file being accessed by an HR employee turned into uncovering a targeted botnet campaign aimed at HR and payroll tax workers in Mexico. Last Wednesday, CISA issued an advisory following a cyberattack that forced Arkansas City, Kansas to switch its water treatment facility to manual operations. CISA is urging OT/ICS operators in critical infrastructure sectors to apply key recommendations to defend against pro-Russia hacktivist threats, yet the problem remains that municipal utilities—whether power, water, or pipelines—need funding sources they currently don’t have.
